One of Terry's better books

Having ready the entire SoT series and the follow-ups, Terry is back on form with this book. My curiosity is piqued for more of this series.

Atmospheric, layered novel. Flawlessly delivered

There is nothing like a string of reviewers complaining about the narration to attract my attention. More about that later.
This was my first Goodkind book; the depth of the story, rich in its detail at every stage made it a joy to experience. Although this book takes place in a wider narrative, the background was seamlessly woven in, without detracting from the pace of this particular story.
As with many a fantasy novel you can expect a number of characters and in Goodkind's hands each one brought something to the whole of the tale. There is a balanced mix of motivations, along with good, bad, conflicted and self-absorbed folk.
And entertaining listen which has me thinking although later to Goodkind maybe it's time to invest in his work.
Finally, the narration.
Since the central character is a woman, a woman narrator was a wise choice. Christina Traister brings the right level of slow, steady, at times brooding style to an ominous world from the point of view of a character with a complex and troubled path. Why the criticism by other reviewers is a mystery. They weren't very detailed. The narrator has a large number of books to her credit. Thus, I advise those criticisms can be ignored.

great continuation

There are 4 books but we can only listen to one in the UK. So makes this listen a waste of time.

Good story but a tad predictable.

I will start by saying that I loved the Sword of Truth series but I didn't really get on with this one. Although the story in itself is good and it's good spending time with some other characters I found it all too predictable, certain parts felt rushed and it came across as quite self righteous.

I wish I could have been kinder

I have enjoyed all previous Terry Goodkind books. Unfortunately I have struggled with this edition mainly because of the narration. Consequently I have stopped using my audible book and reverted to reading from my library book version.

Narrator bad, Story okay.

The Narrator's pronunciation of some key words was way off. Her breathing became irritating because it disrupted the pace.

The idea of having to save the world twice in the Same place within days was interesting.

I really liked Thistle's character.

Unsuitable narrator

Ruined by unsuitable narrator, with a voice and style more suited to children’s books, lacking the character and menace needed for these stories. She makes it sound like a light hearted picnic, as well as annoyingly mispronouncing names.

Loved it!

I love anything from this series. It's nice to branch out and see more in depth character development from other important characters while waiting for the next instalment from Richard and Khalan x
