Summary

Five years after Charles II's triumphant return there is growing mistrust of his extravagant court - and when a cart laden with gunpowder explodes outside the General Letter Office, it is immediately clear that such an act is more than an expression of outrage at the postal service.

As intelligencer to the Lord Chamberlain, Thomas Chaloner cannot understand why an incompetent man is put in charge of the investigation while he is diverted to make enquiries about the poisoning of birds in the King's aviary in St James's Park. Then human rather than avian victims are poisoned, and Chaloner knows he has to use his own considerable wits to defeat an enemy whose deadly tentacles reach into the very heart of the government....

Enjoyable and mysterious!

Would you consider the audio edition of Death in St James's Park to be better than the print version?

You can't really compare them in that way - I love reading but I just don't have time so I am delighted to be able to listen to such good quality audio books while working.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death in St James's Park?

The closing scenes where the post office is on fire.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I enjoyed the whole book.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Susanna Gregory's books always make me smile; her humour is very subtle and she has an excellent way of laughing at her own characters which I really appreciate.

Any additional comments?

This book is very well read and, therefore, easy to listen to.

Susanna 's Stories

I thoroughly enjoy her books. Both Thomas Chaloner and Matthew Bartholomew. which I fell in love with first..
While waiting for the next book I decided to start reading the Chaloner series which soon captivated me.
I work as a Carer in the community, so I listen to the audible books while I'm driving round.
Thank you so much, please keep writing.
