About this listen

After the death of her husband, Liz McLuckie has taken early retirement and moved to Whitby, a picturesque fishing town on the North Yorkshire coast. She thinks the renovation of two ramshackle fishing cottages will take her mind off things, but she soon discovers Whitby isn’t quite the peaceful retreat she imagined. When she discovers the body of a local Professor near the medieval Abbey, Liz reluctantly finds herself at the center of a murder investigation. The post mortem reveals death by drowning. So how did he get onto the clifftop? And why did he have a fish in his pocket?

Liz follows the trail of the murderer, and many red herrings—both literal and metaphorical—in the company of her friends, including an almost-reformed burglar, a disgraced archaeology student, and Nelson the bull terrier, the ugliest (and bravest!) dog in Yorkshire.

i quite enjoyed the story, although it's nothing particularly original, definitely not up there with the likes of Richard Osman. But I really struggled to listen to the narrators awful accents. They were painful to hear and really off-putting.

ok, if you can ignore the narrators awful accents

Yeah, I really enjoyed this I binged it in a day. Jan Durham is my new favourite author. The characters are great, very likable and funny. Danielle Cohen is fantastic as the narrator. Her narration is very natural and easy to listen to, the performance was spot on and kept me engaged throughout. The story was interesting and to be honest I thought it was someone else. To be fair if it was who I thought it was I think it would of been a really good twist... But I was still satisfied with the ending. I will be getting the new book tomorrow!

Had to stop listening as the narrator was too cringing to listen to. Her Scottish accent kept changing to Welsh and back to Scottish. I sure the story was good but had to give up due to narrator

Dreadful narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed this easy listen set in Whitby a place I love. I suppose you would call it a cosy crime but has murder, theft and intrigue in the much loved seaside town. kept me happy whilst crafting and cooking.
