When a skeleton is discovered in the hidden crypt of a deconsecrated church, everyone is convinced the bones must be those of Conor Devitt, a local man who went missing on his wedding day six years previously. But the postmortem reveals otherwise.

Solicitor Benedicta "Ben" O'Keeffe is acting for the owners of the church. Negotiating between the official investigation - headed up by the handsome but surly Sergeant Tom Molloy - and obstructive locals with secrets of their own, Ben unravels layers of personal and political history to get to the truth of what happened six years before.

I really enjoyed this - different to the usual police procedural but a great cast of characters and well narrated. Twists and turns that kept me hooked. Keen to read more from this author.

The name Eithne was horribly mispronounced all the way. It should be 'Ethna', not 'Ethnee'. Also, 'Gardai' should be 'Gardee', not 'Gard-eye'. As for 'Siochana'... The narrator sounds Irish - how could she get these wrong?
I like Molloy and the relationship between him and Ben is the key element in this series. Great sense of place and community, too.

Slow to start but really enjoyed it. Had a few twists and turns. Liked the characters

I really enjoyed this. The story has lots of twists and turns and enough characters to keep it interesting but I found the plot easier to follow than some others because of the way it was told. I read other reviews saying some of the pronunciations are problematic but as somebody unfamiliar with Irish names and places, I thought the narrator told the story well and liked her voice.
