Summary

Miami's best-dressed serial killer is back and on the prowl - at least he would be if he could shake off his permanent shadow.

Ever since their paths first crossed, Sergeant Doakes hasn't let Dexter Morgan out of his sight. Dexter may well be the Miami PD's blood-spatter analyst, but Sgt. Doakes has a pretty good idea of how Dex likes to spend his free time, and he's determined to catch him in the act.

Dex hasn't killed in months and is getting twitchy. To throw Doakes off his scent, he's spending more time with Rita, his girlfriend. But no matter how many cosy nights they spend in front of the TV, Doakes is still watching. Then a body turns up, horribly mutilated and barely alive. To trap the torturer, Doakes and Dexter will have to work together - if they can trust each other. It's a devil's pact, and one of them will have to be the bait....

One of my favourite Authors

If you could sum up Dearly Devoted Dexter in three words, what would they be?

Disturbingly great story

What other book might you compare Dearly Devoted Dexter to, and why?

Thomas Harris - Hannibal

What does Jeff Lindsay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I tend to rush books have them read gives me greater detail

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Amused

Any additional comments?

Was not, and probably still not sure about the narration. Usually its one of the important details, other being story. At first I was not sure about an non-professional actor doing the narration. But Jeff grew on me. Yes, he does not have the vocal range of a trained voice but he puts so much humour into the story I will definitely get another of the Books.

Second Superlative Serial-killer

Jeff Lindsey continues to both write and narrate this episode in the life of Dexter, the serial killer who dislikes the messiness of blood but, ironically . also works for the police in his capacity of a blood splatter analyst. The story is again told from Dexter's point of view as he tries to pursue his own chosen 'hobby' whilst assisting in the tracking of a particularly unpleasant butcher of men. It is a bit gruesome in part but told with such wit and narrated with delicious style so that the whole is a joy to hear.
Another highly recommended listen.

Amazing series

The books are while slightly similar very different from the TV series. so much darker and more interesting in story compared to the tv show.

I find Dexter's evolution to a balanced monster quite interesting as he starts to feel emotions over time he's never experienced. I loom forward to reading the rest of the series.

Excellent. Better than the first.

The narration by Jeff Lindsay can only be described as outstanding. It gave the whole story extra meaning, another layer which only a listener will have access to.

This was a wonderful listen. It was amusing and great fun - I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one.

First audiobook, most definately not the last

I have been a big fan of the Dexter series on tv and was reluctant to start with the books. It was great though. Also I liked to hear the author himself read it, like the way it was meant. Although his inner Dexter voice was not my favorite it was still good. I just had to keep reminding myself it is different from Michael C Hall's Dexter. It was a good read.

Excellent narrating

I love the fact that Jeff Lindsay is narrating the Dexter books, as he is speaking the words he wrote, and when I read the books first I had a similar voice speaking the words the same way Mr Lindsay has

Excellent, look forward to reading the rest of the series of books

Supprise Mother F#####!

Loved it!
Wasnt sure what to expect after the first book that i really did also enjoy however that was not a bad thing at all. This book went straight to the dark. An extreme thriller with gore and my kind of sence of humour. It was a little longer book with much more fun inside. Fantastic writing and reading from Jeffrey Limdsay!

Still a winner

I love that the narrator/author has a smooth, calm and slightly edgy voice. Having been an avid fan of the tv show also, I can really depict all the characters in their own right. I love these books and cannot wait to listen to them all. They all have the air of classic noir novella.
