About this listen

Deadish is a delightful blend of dark humor and absurdism that celebrates the medical world while poking fun at hospital bureaucracy. Rife with silly office politics, medical misadventures, and stories told after one too many drinks, you'll follow the lives of Ashley and Chris, two junior surgeons at Serenity Hospital, as they struggle with domineering management, awkward patient encounters, and unintentionally amusing events that make you want to laugh out loud.

As the pair fight to save their patients and sometimes their own lives they reveal the real human connections behind every story that give profound meaning to their hard work and sacrifice! As a must-listen for fellow surgeons, nurses, doctors, and anybody who wants to have a laugh as they gain a deeper insight into what goes on inside hospitals, Deadish is an absurd and insightful listen that uses black comedy to share the authentic stories of the medical world. The title of this book caught my attention straight away. There was something comical about it.

The narrator was absolutely fantastic and really drew me in with the characters. The tone was perfect for the topic. There was an easy to follow pace which kept moving and didn’t drag.

The actual book is a wonderful mix of humour, sorrow and ‘that can’t possibly be a real story’!

There are moments that are difficult to hear and be warned that this is an element of gore and death inline with a medical setting. But the over riding feel is of humour and supporting each other in your team (even if it’s at the expense of someone else)

I would definitely recommend this book at anyone who has in interest in the medical profession or who wants a gritty , humorous and possibly honest look at life in a hospital.

Humorous and gritty

After reading and really enjoying this book, I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook! It was like listening to a season of Grey’s Anatomy! That’s exactly how I envisioned all of the characters in this book in my head.

I absolutely loved the witty humour and banter between the colleagues in the book. Some characters were definitely more likeable than others! Some of the descriptions of the surgeries made me feel physically sick… loved it. The burger scene! Ewwww. The description throughout was fantastic and at some points I felt like I was there with them in the operating room and could smell the blood! It was also quite scary and eye opening to read some of the discussions that go on about your life when you are lying on the operating table and your life is literally in the surgeons hands!

The narrator on Audible did a fantastic job of portraying the different characters and personalities and I really enjoyed listening to this book! This audiobook is perfect for fans of hospital/medical programs!

Great Book!

📚Book Review📚

Deadish

Where to start with this review!!?

Well, this was certainly a wild ride from start to finish and I spent my time feeling appalled, sickened, frustrated and absolutely dying with how absolutely hilarious this book was.

As I read through the first third, I have to admit to having a mild panic attack.
My son has a long term medical condition and for the last 16 years I've spent countless hours sitting in waiting rooms, consultant rooms and wards whilst he was in meetings or admitted due to being unwell.
As he was only a child, I was allowed to stay with him and so for many a dull hour, I had nothing to do than to overhear (and be privy to) staff conversations.

Some of the content of this book, therefore rang true - from things I'd heard. For instance the internal politics, hierarchy of the doctors, the bureaucracy, the endless paperwork, staffing (or lack of) etc etc.
But the author takes things even further almost to parody levels with this exaggerated narrative.

I loved the wide range of diverse characters and the dynamics between them all. But also the way that they all interacted with the patients and families and the different effects the job had on each of them.

This was graphic and dark in places but so, so funny in others. I totally recognised so much but was extremely glad that this took things to epic proportions with all the mishaps and botch jobs.
I loved the overall story arc which had a very gratifying conclusion.

A very entertaining book that might get you thinking, but definitely don't take it too seriously or you might never visit a hospital again!

scarily dark - but hilarious too!

I loved every minute I spent listening to this book! The writing, together with the narration by Gill Mills, was fantastic.

All the characters were believable, just a bit amplified - keen but naive Ashley, mischievous Chris and the pompous, arrogant Professor Stone with his hangers-on.

Some of the situations with patients were also hilarious, but the concern for patient care comes through too.

At the heart of this book is the message that a career in medicine is a truly difficult one - and that's before you consider the political wrangling and jostling for position that goes on behind the scenes.

A fabulous book, terrifically narrated!

Wiitty , and well-narrated
