About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

You thought he was the one. You broke his heart. But now, he might be the only one who can save your life...

Anna and Reid weren't meant to be, apparently. She's a fiery American journalist; he's a stoic British detective - it was nice while it lasted, and then it really wasn't.
And Anna is over it now anyway. She's on the scent of a career-making story - a suspicious death amongst the cloistered elite world of Cambridge University, with a slice of police corruption too.
It's just, the more she investigates, the more there's only one person she wants to talk to about it. She starts writing Reid a long sprawling email - it's not like she's ever planning to send it.
Until suddenly, she's in desperate trouble. The problem with chasing a killer is that sometimes, you run right into them.
And the only detective she can trust with her life, is the one who broke her heart...

Critic reviews

I totally recommend this twisty, unpredictable thriller (Claire Douglas)
Propulsive, pacy, hugely immersive – a brilliantly told story. I didn't want it to end but also couldn't stop turning the pages! (Andrea Mara)
Lodge takes her time getting her ducks in a row, but this pays off magnificently as everything finally comes together in the frenzied denouement
I loved Dead To Me, a whip-smart, twisty thriller full of intrigue, rivalries and a brilliant heroine you’ll be rooting for. Gytha Lodge gets better and better (Laura Marshall)
Imagine Jane Casey and Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware collaborated to write a brilliant psychological thriller set in dark academia, underpinned by a will they/won’t they romance. But this unique novel is all down to the talented Gytha Lodge – I highly recommend (Jo Callaghan)
Dead To Me is a delicious slice of dark academia. Another gripping and beautifully written book from Gytha Lodge (C.S. Green)
Praise for Gytha Lodge (:)
I was completely gripped... Such a clever, twisty mystery. I loved it (BP Walter)
A taut, gripping thriller
Classic detective fiction at its best...edge-of-seat suspense (Jeffery Deaver)

A great book with some really good twists I loved how it was written from the point of view of Anna the victim through her own writing as well as those trying to find her.

Cleverly written

I’m obviously not going to give away the punchline, but this is Gytha Lodge’s smartest, wisest crime novel. That it’s set in Cambridge which Gytha knows inside out is a delicious bonus. And if you’ve ever rowed on the Cam or walked Cambridge’s cobblestoned streets, it will make you squeal with joys of recognition at every page turn.

Oh so clever and fun… and quite profound too

As a fan of the authors detective series, I was looking forward to reading this one, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for me. I didn’t enjoy the format and I found I just didn’t care enough about any of the characters. Disappointing.

Not my favourite of her books
