About this listen

Surly and abrasive, veteran detective Jack Harris at times shows more concern for the wildlife in his beloved Pennine Hills than keeping up cordial relations at work. Indeed, when a trio of local criminals try to steal the eggs of a rare bird, DCI Harris treats it almost like a personal insult. Yet, when two of the criminals descend from the hills into Harris' snare, Harris finds himself with a murder investigation on his hands.

This hasn’t been successfully produced - the sound dips incredibly low even at full volume, compared with other audiobooks.
The story is ok but fairly dull and full of cliches.

Didn’t finish this. Got fed up with an untidy storyline and a narrator who just sounded as if he was waffling

Waffling narration

In the end this audio book had a moderately interesting story line. However it was not the easiest of books to follow.

the reader really spoilt this for me. his intonation was very odd, only sounding correct when needing to sound angry or irritated. because of this, I hardly noticed the story, which I think is just ok. I'm not very interested in egg collectors and I left the book unfinished, not being able to cope any longer with the narrator.

Really strange narration

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters & look forward to the next story, Harris is a harsh but fair character with soft edges & I love that he takes no nonsense. Like old style policing.

Good story with lots of twists & turns.
