Summary

A New York Times best seller

Former Special Forces officer and New York Times best-selling author Brad Taylor delivers a heart-pounding thriller featuring Taskforce operators Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill as they come face-to-face with a conspiracy where nothing is as it seems.

Hot on the trail of a North Korean looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver: the sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury.

Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces and blame the attack on terrorists, causing western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war.

Meanwhile, North Korea has its own devastating agenda: a double cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria even as it lays the blame on the Syrian government. Leveraging Switzerland's fame for secrecy and its vast network of military bunkers, now repurposed by private investors for the clandestine storage of wealth, North Korea will use Red Mercury to devastate the West's ability to deliver further sanctions against the rogue regime.

As the Taskforce begins to unravel the plot, a young refugee unwittingly holds the key to the conspiracy. Hunted across Europe for reasons she cannot fathom, she is the one person who can stop the attack - if she can live long enough for Pike and Jennifer to find her.

Critic reviews

“Taylor has already established himself as a master of special-ops thrillers, and this one will only add to his stellar reputation.... Taylor adds human depth to his usually plot-driven novels, and the result is one of his best books to date.” (Booklist, starred review)

"Taylor clearly has the qualifications to provide a military thriller with realistic details, and he does just that in this latest addition to the Pike Logan series...a fast-paced thriller. A believable story with the kind of interesting details that keep the pages turning.” (Kirkus Reviews)

"Meticulously plotted...particularly gripping.” (Publishers Weekly

Another 5 star espionage thriller from Brad Taylor

Pike Logan, Jenifer Cahill, and the rest of the Taskforce are joined in Europe by a 13 year old girl named Amena who is an orphan from Syria in the 13th novel in the Pike Logan series by Brad Taylor. DAUGHTER OF WAR works well as a standalone for those listeners not familiar with the Pike Logan series. Amena, the daughter of war, is at least as much a hero in this novel as as any of the Taskforce members. The publisher's summary does a nice job of setting up this novel. I've listened to all of the novels and short stories in this series and I believe this is my favorite.

Until Book 13 all novels in the Pike Logan series after Book 1 the narrating duties are shared by Rich Orlow reading the Pike Logan first person portion and Henry Stozier narrating the rest. Brad Taylor writes DAUGHTER OF WAR with virtually all of the novel being first person Pike Logan, so Rich Orlow narrates the entire novel. It works extremely well.

DAUGHTER OF WAR has my highest possible recommendation.

great book

This book had a little more heart and soul than many of the Pike Logan novels- still plenty of action but I loved the new character. I even enjoyed the author's notes at the end! I love the narrator for this series- he makes it so I see the characters and action

Another great book!

Non stop action and suspense from beginning to end! This time a combination of bad guys from Syria and north Korea keep Pike Logan and his task force running in circles. The introduction of the refugee girl made some very interesting plot twists and heart wrenching drama for Pike. Enjoying the fact we're now down to only one performer instead of two, which I disliked.

Really Good

Another winner in Brad Taylor’s wonderful progression of the Task Force. Did miss Henry Strozier on the audio, but Rich Orlow didn’t miss a beat. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
Enjoyed hearing Brad’s thoughts at the end as to how he developed the story.

Narration

After listening to 6 books it was very different without Harry Stroizer. I would have enjoyed it better with him also narrating.

Best book in the series

I have been a Pike Logan fan from the first book. But this book really brought out another level of depth to his character.

Brad Taylor did a great job of using a sideline character to show us some of the previously unknown or unrealized capacity of our hero. And he does a skillful job of showing a kind side of Pike without diminishing skillful predatory nature I have come to appreciate.

I look forward to the new female character returning in upcoming books to further heal the scars from Pike’s violent past.

This Series is One of the Best in this Genre

WOW, I don't know how Brad keeps writing great plots, stories and characters book after book. They are authentic and rich with detail and great characters. Orlow does a great job narrating this book as he has done for others in the series, he is the voice of Pike Logan. Daughter of War is another very rewarding listen. Thank you Brad for writing such great original characters and stories.
