Summary

A New York Times best seller

Former Special Forces officer and New York Times best-selling author Brad Taylor delivers a heart-pounding thriller featuring Taskforce operators Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill as they come face-to-face with a conspiracy where nothing is as it seems.

Hot on the trail of a North Korean looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver: the sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury.

Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces and blame the attack on terrorists, causing western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war.

Meanwhile, North Korea has its own devastating agenda: a double cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria even as it lays the blame on the Syrian government. Leveraging Switzerland's fame for secrecy and its vast network of military bunkers, now repurposed by private investors for the clandestine storage of wealth, North Korea will use Red Mercury to devastate the West's ability to deliver further sanctions against the rogue regime.

As the Taskforce begins to unravel the plot, a young refugee unwittingly holds the key to the conspiracy. Hunted across Europe for reasons she cannot fathom, she is the one person who can stop the attack - if she can live long enough for Pike and Jennifer to find her.

Critic reviews

“Taylor has already established himself as a master of special-ops thrillers, and this one will only add to his stellar reputation.... Taylor adds human depth to his usually plot-driven novels, and the result is one of his best books to date.” (Booklist, starred review)

"Taylor clearly has the qualifications to provide a military thriller with realistic details, and he does just that in this latest addition to the Pike Logan series...a fast-paced thriller. A believable story with the kind of interesting details that keep the pages turning.” (Kirkus Reviews)

"Meticulously plotted...particularly gripping.” (Publishers Weekly

Another 5 star espionage thriller from Brad Taylor

Pike Logan, Jenifer Cahill, and the rest of the Taskforce are joined in Europe by a 13 year old girl named Amena who is an orphan from Syria in the 13th novel in the Pike Logan series by Brad Taylor. DAUGHTER OF WAR works well as a standalone for those listeners not familiar with the Pike Logan series. Amena, the daughter of war, is at least as much a hero in this novel as as any of the Taskforce members. The publisher's summary does a nice job of setting up this novel. I've listened to all of the novels and short stories in this series and I believe this is my favorite.

Until Book 13 all novels in the Pike Logan series after Book 1 the narrating duties are shared by Rich Orlow reading the Pike Logan first person portion and Henry Stozier narrating the rest. Brad Taylor writes DAUGHTER OF WAR with virtually all of the novel being first person Pike Logan, so Rich Orlow narrates the entire novel. It works extremely well.

DAUGHTER OF WAR has my highest possible recommendation.

I've just finished the last Pike Logan book

I've listened to all of them, including the short stories, over the last 2 months. I've done this kind on binge listening before but most authors I feel like stopping in the middle and taking a break. With Brad Taylor's books I was anxious to hear what was coming next and didn't mind paying the extra credit fees to keep listening to all of them. I recommend all of them but if you miss one or two don't stress Mr. Taylor does a great job bringing the new reader up to speed without boring to seasoned readers. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Another great book!

Non stop action and suspense from beginning to end! This time a combination of bad guys from Syria and north Korea keep Pike Logan and his task force running in circles. The introduction of the refugee girl made some very interesting plot twists and heart wrenching drama for Pike. Enjoying the fact we're now down to only one performer instead of two, which I disliked.

So happy for just one narrator

I had quit reading this series because I loved the first person narrative from Pike and would get bored with the moderator in between. This entire book being written from Pike's POV was a welcomed change!

a little slow start, but picked up and became eng

story was a little slow and a bit confusing as the characters were introduced. also took some time to get used to the switching between first and third person. However, it quickly became engaging and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This reader is just average. Would be better on future stories combining with a female reader.

Wow! Excellent story and plenty of twists & turns

This is the first Brad Taylor novel I listened to, and I plan to listen to previous books based on this one. Multiple plots scattered throughout the book with a few central themes. A young Syrian refugee moves to the top of the character list in a story that could be a movie.

The plot is believable without the over the top superhero-like skills in other books in the genre.

Without giving away too much of the story, the North Koreans develop a WMD and sell it to the Syrians with a condition of sale. Everything seems to go wrong when an iPhone is stolen, and Russians are brought in to retrieve it.

Which group will prevail? The Russians, Syrians, North Koreans, or the USA?

Excellent banter among Pike's team and how will romance play into the story?

The eleven hours of listening went very fast.

best Pike book so far.

Pike is like Mitch Rapp with a heart. However, he will rip yours' out of you if you cross him or the team.
