Summary

What defines the success of a business? Is it the number of people employed by the firm? Is it the sales turnover of the business? Is it the strength of the customer base of the firm? Does employee satisfaction play a role in the success of business operations? How does management factor into the overall operational success? How critical is the role of a data scientist in this process? Finally, does fiscal responsibility play any role in the success of any business?

Data has currently become part and parcel of our everyday lives. It provides us with hidden facts and in-depth meaning through scientific experiments and developing algorithms, making use of all the available knowledge of acquired domains. When it comes to data, there is no longer a shortage.

There may even be an excess of data if you consider the traffic going through social media, real-time market feeds, transaction details, and elsewhere. The volume of data available for use in the finance sector is almost explosive. Its variety has also expanded, and even the velocity at which the data becomes accessible has sharply risen. This scenario can either take organizations to heights unknown before or leave them dumbfounded from the overwhelming feeling caused by the data influx.

Given that organizations are in business to succeed, they have learned that the best way to utilize this flood of data is to engage data scientists. A data scientist is a guru who takes the data, explores it from all possible angles, and makes inferences that ultimately help him or her make very informed discoveries.

Most practical data mining book!

This is an important added value for an introductory level book, and which renders the book also useful for Data Mining professionals who could benefit from the collection of formalized concepts and the related discussion. Moreover, the book can extend an excellent footing for those wishing to gradually get into the field of data science.

Well-written resource

An excellent, well-written resource even for data science practitioners like myself. The book articulates data science basic principles very clearly for executives who want to work with (and hire) data scientists. It also helps me remind myself of the nuances between different data science methods.

Data Science for Business

This book essentially systematizes data analysis methodologies, and is simply the best resource I've ever seen to accomplish that purpose. I'm working to see if we can get this book for all the data analysts on our staff, so they can have it as a resource.

This is the best book for understanding data scien

This is the best book for understanding data science. It is written for a college-educated non-mathematician who wants to understand the potential of big data for providing business insights. It includes just enough technical detail so that a SAS or R programmer gets a good enough background to delve into the recommended reference and technical articles that the book suggests.

Definitely, worth listening

Excellent book. The book breaks down fairly complicated concepts into meaningful
Real world applications. In addition, the book helps blend the two fields of machine learning
And business strategy, making the field more of an art than a formulaic method of solving
Problems. Definitely, worth reading for business strategists, statisticians, and data scientists

Great book. Thought provoking.

The book explains effective procedures and typicall pitfalls in plain english and with helpful descriptive real world examples.
For proceeding data mining in greater depth it would be not sufficient but to get started and understand data science better its a GREAT BOOK!

Good Book to Learn About Big Data

This book addresses the topic of Big Data in a practical, understandable manner. Some books are too technical or the authors seem to be learning as they go. These guys know what they are talking about well enough to really be able to explain it.
