"Dieses lehren uns die Schlichten: /Freundlich lächeln. Weiterdichten", schrieb Wiglaf Droste, nachdem er wieder einmal Unbill mit der Chefsorte Mensch hatte. Und das tut Droste denn auch: gut gelaunt weiterdichten. Die Anlässe für seine Verse sind mannigfaltig wie das Leben selbst. Manchmal reicht schon ein klangvoller Halbsatz in einer Zeitungsmeldung, um den Autor in lyrischen Schwung zu bringen, auch Küche und Himmelbett sind sprudelnde Quellen der Inspiration.
Die Skala der Drosteschen Tonfälle hat sich im Lauf der Zeit konsequent verbreitert - wir erleben den Dichter aufsässig, spöttisch, heiter, zart - und liebevoll. Aus einigen der Gedichte hatte Danny Dziuk, als Songschreiber eine Klasse für sich, Lieder gemacht, die, mit ausgesuchten Gastmusikern aufgenommen, von Droste und Dziuk gesungen werden.
