Summary

Based on unproduced episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this new novel features Asajj Ventress, former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter and one of the great antiheroes in Star Wars history.

The only way to bring down the Sith's most dangerous warrior may be to join forces with the dark side.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force's power to bear - pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku's side still runs deep, Ventress' hatred for her former master runs deeper. She's more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter - and assassin - to Vos' quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku - as long as the emerging feelings between them don't compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior's spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts - a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy... and her own doubt.

After Thrawn, possibly the best star wars story

This is the love story that the fall of Anikin should have been. An absolute must for anyone who loved the clone wars l. I find when reading these books, the light side novels lack the passion and interest of the dark side novels while the dark side lacks the extensive charectors from the major series. This has both. Excellent.

My only minor critism, and I'm usually a massive fan of Marc Thompsons narration, but on this occasion unfortunately annoyed me by making Mace windu sound like lando. And also on the charector of Mace, a jedi who had to create a form of lightsaber combat in order to control his own dark side leanings, the writer somehow seemed to forget this and make him out to be the least understanding of the situation when he should have been the most. But again, not frustrating enough to detract from an amazing story.

Missing piece of the Puzzle

As a fan of Quinlan Vos from the original dark horse comics I was thrilled to find out he was still canon to starwars.

This story fills in a missing part of Vos and Ventress' story and I was impressed to hear it is based on 8 episodes of the Clone wars that never got chance to be made.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a greater insight in to the canon expanded starwars story.

Phenomenal

I simply couldn't stop listening! Marc Thompson's narration is enough to boost any audiobook up a star, and Chrstie Golden's story and writing make this some of the best Star Wars material out there. Beautiful, a real tear jerker and very hard to put down.

The best of clone wars in audio form

one of Canons strongest novels
the range of emotions I felt through out is unlike the feelings anyother novel has made me feel.

a tragic love story with a bitter sweet glimpse of hope.
mark Thompson beautifully reads and performs along side some of the best choices of sounds and music star wars has offer.
it felt like an 8-10 episode arch of the clone wars and I'm glad we were able to experience this lost episode.
though some surprises are felt flatly I feel this is the case of stretching a script into a novel.
overall though I loved it and will be returning to this story during my clone wars binges.

Great story, amazing performance.

Marc Thompson puts on a great performance in a story with a lot of raw emotion and feeling behind it which is only helped by Star Wars SFX and music.
The story itself is well paced and well structured quietly planting seeds of what's to come later on. Purely from my own experience, some of the Star Wars books struggle to make me care about the new characters that they introduce, however Dark Disciple doesn't struggle with this as our protagonists both have interesting backgrounds.

Stunning Performance!

Hello there!

I had previously read the novel however hearing the story unfold is a whole new experience. Marc Thompson captures the voices of Asajj and Dooku perfectly and additionally Kenobi and Yoda sound great.

This narration alongside added sound effects such as lightsaber clashes, blaster fire etc as well as the music really create a unique experience and delve you straight into the Star Wars universe.

The story itself is emotional and intense. There are a few moment that could be sped up a bit but I understand that the novel is based off unproduced TV episodes.

Overall a fantastic listen and perfect for newcomers to Audiobooks and Star Wars as well as die hard fans.

Bravo!

Fantastic

Pretty much every moment of this book is awesome. This book shows how the darkside affects people while bringing a fantastic end to Asajj Ventresses story arc from the clone wars Tv series. Highly recommend if you loved the clone wars and want to see more stories from that era.

Love in the dark

One of the better new canon novels. Great gritty story full of all the things we love about Star Wars. It tells us more about the arrogance of the Jedi and can see how easy it was for their eventual downfall. But for me as a life long Star Wars fan it just shows what a dick Mace Windu was in my eyes. Other people might think different but he was just an arrogant dick all the way to his end in revenge of the sith.
