Summary

Holy hot vampire! Get your cold shower ready....

A ruthless vampire king. An alluring crime family heiress. A dark desire that won’t be tamed....

Charlotte...

Charlotte D’Amico never met a safe she couldn’t crack, a penthouse she couldn’t case, or a stuck-up rich guy she couldn’t deceive. So when the crime boss who runs her life orders her to spy on yet another reclusive billionaire, Charley’s not worried.

Smile pretty, keep the boss happy, keep her sister safe. That’s how it works.

But Dorian Redthorne is no ordinary mark.

He’s charming, funny, and sinfully hot, with a whiskey-smooth British accent that leaves her aching for more.

He’s also dark, dangerous, and definitely hiding secrets....

Secrets that might just get her killed.

Dorian...

Vampire king Dorian Redthorne has more responsibilities than he can count.

Keep New York’s supernaturals in line. Protect what’s left of his family. And above all, bury his dead father’s secrets...before their enemies discover the royal family’s greatest weakness.

Charlotte D’Amico is a complication he doesn’t need.

But the scent of her blood is intoxicating, her heartbeat a siren call he can’t resist.

One stolen kiss, and Dorian knows how this ends: He claims her, or he bleeds her dry.

Unfortunately, his pretty little con woman is as treacherous as his enemies.

The question is...which will destroy him first?

Dark Deception is the first book in the Vampire Royals of New York series, a dark paranormal romance featuring a commanding, dirty-talking vampire king and the seductive con artist who might just bring him to ruin...or become his eternal salvation. If you love sizzling romance, dark secrets, and scorching-hot vampires with British accents, you need Dorian Redthorne in your life!

Just alright...

This is my first Sarah Piper book and I’m honestly a little disappointed. The story was intriguing at times but not consuming. I got bored and stopped reading multiple times. I read several other books in between listens (not my norm). I felt like the storyline finally picked up at the end. However, I’m not a fan of books where one or more main characters keep some big secret throughout the story even when they know it would be better to come clean. Lies and deceit don’t strengthen the plot. They cause frustration and unnecessary issues. I do love the narrators, and oh my...Shane East’s voice is so swoony. I see the potential for a great story and am hoping the next book improves - giving this author one more shot by purchasing book 2 in the series...good idea? We shall see...

Wow

Author is new to me but wow! This book is so good. The cliffhanger is killing me! Thank god I don’t have to wait too long. I love the two main characters and I love Dorian’s brothers and Charlie sister. Shane East with his sexy voice did an amazing job at narrating. Mackenzie Cartwright also did an excellent job at narrating

On the edge of suspense!

Well done Sarah Piper! I did not want to put this down, often fighting with trying to find a hiding spot away from everyone so I could stay immersed in the plot. Each character has their unique stamp into the storyline, what better way to allow their stories to be told by none other than Shane East and Mackenzie Cartwright.
As always, Shane captivates the storyline and brings the characters to life with full emotion and trepidation. His voice is one you never want to be rid of.
The first time I heard Mackenzie Cartwright narrate was in a rock band series a few years back, one that I ate right up (and still often come back to) because of her way to ease into any type of genre of character with little effort.
WORTH THE CREDIT!
Now, on to the next in the series!

Just another contemporary romance novel

The thing I love about paranormal fiction is the alternate and sometimes separate universe it creates. That's not to say I'm not a fan of stories that are developed on the fringes of society. The ability to integrate the two worlds requires a rare insight into the way society works, but it can be done as we have seen with the Mercedes Thompson and Sookie Stackhouse series. This novel however is merely a contemporary romance disguised as paranormal fiction. The "vampires" of this series enjoy drinking tea and eating lemon cookies more than they do blood! The male protagonist and king of the vampires is willfully ignorant, which is the last thing you would expect when someone has lived for hundreds of years. Don't get me started on the blur. Disappointing story, poor character development. The only thing that could make this vampire less of a vampire is if he sparkled in the sun.

Hot vampires...YES!!

What a great introduction to Sarah Piper.

When Charley's uncle orders her to get close to a billionaire recluse, she treats it as business as usual. When you're a member of a theft ring, it comes w/the territory. Charley has a special gift to be forgettable while laying her traps. When she meets Dorian Redthorne, there's something different about him. But, he's a mark and she has her orders.

Dorian is immediately drawn to Charley. As a vampire king, he avoids relationships with mortal humans. For Charley, Dorian is business and relationships aren't an option in her line of work. Try as they might, neither can resist the other, and decide on a temporary affair. No strings, no feelings. As Dorian and Charley get to know each other, he's finding it difficult to see an end to their affair; Charley begins to learn that Dorian isn't the easy mark. They both find each other to be a complication that neither wants. This is a beautifully woven story, and I can't wait to start the next book in this trilogy.

Shane East and Mackenzie Cartwright did a wonderful job narrating. You get all the feels, and smokin' chemistry between the Dorian and Charley.

Pretty boring

Story is boooorring. Narration is pretty good though. I keep finding my mind wandering ALOT when I turn this story on. And don’t even bother rewinding which is unusual for me.
