Summary

BDSM Erotic Romance

After Kari breaks up with her date during Beginner's Night at Club Shadowlands, she's given the option to continue with an experienced dominant. Despite her steamy fantasies about BDSM, the inexperienced schoolteacher plans to simply observe. Yet under the unyielding hands of Master Dan, she not only participates, but gives him everything he asks for. There is nothing she can hide from him. Not her passion - or her love.

Still mourning the death of his wife, Master Dan avoids getting involved with women and he never takes a sub twice. But this modest little beginner is such a sweetie, one night is far from enough. As he plumbs her responses, taking her ever deeper into the world of BDSM, the gentle submissive begins to show him how barren his life has become and what a dark citadel he's made of his heart.

During their three nights together, the teacher will learn to submit - can she teach the master to love?

Brilliant!

Another excellent story in the shadowlands series - I cant wait to read/listen to all of the others!!
Loved how sweet Carrie is and how wonderful a Dom Dan is even though he has a huge element in his past to over come. Love the other doms that make appearances in the book including the wonderful Master Z
Highly recommended!

Can you say a doormat female lead?

Would you try another book from Cherise Sinclair and/or Noah Michael Levine?

Yes, I generally like both the author and narrator. The very weak lead just made me angry. Nobody should be treated like she was!

What could Cherise Sinclair have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She should have worked harder to make her more believable

Which character – as performed by Noah Michael Levine – was your favorite?

He did a good job, didn't really have a favourite

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The female character was really disappointing

This time it's the "Dom" who vacillates...

The "sub" (Kari) is a generally brave and strong person through at least half the story, then she inexplicably turns into a complete and utter doormat. The "dom" (Dan) is an asshole throughout, hurting Kari with rejections over and over again, while she's at her most vulnerable (a point to which he takes care to bring her each time, in the guise of teaching her about BDSM). Plus, Z's something of an asshole in this book.

I will never understand why it is considered "strong" for a man/Dom to refuse to try again after a partner's death or betrayal, yet women (generally subs) are seen as weaker or needing protection from the big bad world even when they put themselves out there over and over again, risking being hurt in order to find love.

*************** Spoilers Ahead ***************

In this heroine's case, though, going back with the hero in order to be kicked in the proverbial teeth for a third and /fourth/ time, and then fold after a "you're mine!" and a weak-ass "I'm sorry" from the hero after the FOURTH such rejection just makes her an unmitigated DOORMAT, and the hero an unmistakable ASSHOLE.

Also, the way Z is portrayed in this book shows him up as an insensitive asshole, asking Kari to help Dan get over himself at her own expense, AFTER she's been rejected by his friend not once, not twice, but FOUR different times in the course of 3 "training" dates at the club. So much for "Master Z protects everyone in the club, especially submissives".

Excellent series!

Any additional comments?

I am so glad this series is going to be on audible. I have them on kindle. I enjoy them very much. The story line, the descriptions, the pace of the story is excellent. Having read them and now listening to them adds another wonderful dimension. I look forward to purchasing the rest of this series (and her other stories) as the come to audible. Thank you everyone who has made this possible.

Excellent voice telling a great story

The Club Shadowlands series is one of my favourites and this is the second time reading but this time I'm leaving a review.

Kari is a sweet shy women coming to the club with her boyfriend who she doesn't have the right chemistry with. As a widower Dan has no interest in starting a relationship and is full of guilt after losing his wife. But what happens when they are put together in the training program for subs?

I loved this book and the only thing making it a weaker 5 star is that I thought Dan was described a little to cold, but that's only because I didn't want him to be........:-)

The writing style is as always excellent, to the point and no unnecessary chitchat, at times it was fun and most of the time it was hotter than the pavement on a hot summer day.

Kari and her insecurities made me sympathies with her and I recognised the issues, I laughed and cried with her and I wanted to kick Dan's ass at one point.

There are some very good scenes in this book and if you are a BDMS fan you will enjoy this story.

This time I bought the audiobook and I have to say the author picked an excellent voice.......

One of my Favorite installments in the series

Where does Dark Citadel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks up there very high.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved that Master Daniel was finally able to let go of his guilt and see Kari for the treasure she truly was.

Which character – as performed by Noah Michael Levine – was your favorite?

Master Daniel of course! He is such an intense character. I loved how He took charge of the situation after Kari's (then) boyfriend treated her poorly at the beginners class.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved the entire book. Kari is such a sweet soul. She so wanted Master Daniel and worked hard to break through His wall of defense.

Any additional comments?

This is the 2nd of the Masters of the Shadowlands series. I love all book. I am so excited to see that they are finally coming to Audible. I am looking forward to each of them as they come out. If you have not read any of Cherises books I encourage you to either listen on Audible or read on Amazon. (Or do both, like I do)
