Summary

After traveling the world for many years and speaking at hundreds of churches of all kinds, Paul David Tripp is concerned about the state of pastoral culture. He is not only concerned about the spiritual life of the pastor, but with the very people who train him, call him, relate to him, and restore him if necessary.

Dangerous Calling reveals the truth that the culture surrounding our pastors is spiritually unhealthy - an environment that actively undermines the wellbeing and efficacy of our church leaders and thus the entire church body. Here is a book that both diagnoses and offers cures for issues that impact every member and church leader, and gives solid strategies for fighting the war that rages not only in the momentous moments of ministry, but also in the mundane day-by-day life of every pastor.

Heart Surgery

Where does Dangerous Calling rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With regard to content, this book is in my top 5 favorite audiobooks.

What other book might you compare Dangerous Calling to and why?

Richard Baxter's "The Reformed Pastor". The reason why is that Baxter and Tripp both do you a great service in helping you do a thorough (and painful) self-examination.

What does Maurice England bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think Maurice does a wonderful job reading the content. As I was listening, I found myself forgetting that I was being read to - a quality I appreciate. Get out of the way of the content. Great job, Maurice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not in particular, but in the whole, I was greatly refreshed and warned.

Any additional comments?

This is a must-read/listen for anyone serving in ministry in any capacity. I hope to pass this book on to my sons when the time comes.

Dangerous Calling - Excellent

I was totally sucked in. Listened to most of it driving from PA to NY. It was practical and yet I found myself moved to worship.

Should be included in EVERY Pastor Library!

What an incredible insight to one of the most difficult callings anyone could answer. A thoughtful, candid, and to the point analysis of the multiple dangers and warnings EVERY Pastor will encounter. I especially enjoyed the numerous personal encounters he discussed from both personal and counseling moments. This book should be read and discussed in any Pastoral group, training or leadership discussions. Countless wisdom thought out the pages!

Every pastor NEEDS this yesterday!

This book addresses everything that goes on inside of a Pastors head that he doesn’t want anybody else to know is there! It also addresses things going on in the pastors head that might not even know is there! Pastor, the biblical concepts in this book will bring peace to your heart, rest to your mind, restoration to your relationships, and glory to God ad it relates to the American culture of pastoral ministry. I highly recommend this to anybody in any kind of ministry.
