Oooh, talk about angsty, LoL. There were times I wanted to smack some sense into both Gordo and Javi, no matter how much I liked them both. But that’s life—messy and imperfect even in its perfection. A good start to a series—full of a rich cast of supporting characters with their own stories to tell.

I cannot begin to explain to you the emotional roller coaster I was taken on with this book, the listener is pulled into this story and feel like everything that happens, happens to you.

I loved the story and I loved the listen.

I had high hope for this story, but in the end was a little disappointed. The story was good (flowed well and had natural progression), but I had a hard time really enjoying the main characters. The side characters were much more enjoyable and I look forward to reading their stories, but this is not one that I will be re-reading.
The narration is the one thing that kept this story from being a complete flop in my opinion. Maguire did a great job with the characters and the varying voices.

Gordo was married for 6 yrs and they were having a baby, but hubby leaves early on in the pregnancy leaving Gordo to look after his daughter as a single dad. His new next door neighbour Javi loves to party and Gordo has to ask him to turn down the music. They become friends first and it's a sweet story, great start to a wonderful series.

Reading the blurb on this it sounded right up my street but I really struggled to finish it.
I really liked Javi as a character but whilst I think we were supposed to feel sympathy for Gordo as a single farther, he just came across as a selfish and hurtful man towards Javi at times.
The storyline was very good and like the supporting characters and how they supported Javi with his stutter by learning ALS.
However the book seemed to drag on, which may have been due, in my opinion, to the narrator, whose voice was very monotonous and he didn’t differentiate between characters.
I will try the next book as I believe there is a different narrator.
