This book on Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertensi

This book on Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension has many good recipes. It's great for heart healthy eating or just to make something easy thay tastes good. So far I have tried 2 recipes and both of them were home runs. The first 1 I tried was the Lime & Jalapeño Chicken Thighs you just need a couple of ingredients and most of them I'm pretty sure you already have in your kitchen. The 2nd recipe we tried was the Greek Spiced Leg Of Lamb this 1 has a little more ingredients but it is all worth it because it so good. Just one thing I would change in the book would be for them to add more pictures just to get an idea what the final product suppose to look like. The good thing about this book is that you don't have to know anything about the DASH diet beforehand- it introduces it quite nicely. I do have a bit of experience with the DASH diet; my husband has hypertension and is prediabetic and we've tried to adjust his diet so he is not dependent on medications. I own a slow cooker- and make meals in it regularly- so this is great. So far I have only tried the Porcupine meatballs from this book, but they were a hit! I love that a DIET cookbook included a desserts and treats section. And sadly, it’s probably my favorite section as it’s somewhat easier for me to cook healthy meals but then don’t know how to satisfy my sweet tooth in a healthier way. Hehe. I am looking forward to trying a few of those. It has a good combination of basic meals and then some more sophisticated kinds. It has things I know I’d love and things I’m not so sure about but that I’m willing to try because they’re right in front of me and because, hello, it’s in the crock pot which makes everything better (cook time, ease of getting it on the table, not standing in front of the stove, having it all mainly in one pot).

The first recipe I tried from this cookbook was Pe

The first recipe I tried from this cookbook was Peach - Bourbon Chicken. It combines skinless boneless chicken thighs, fresh peaches, tomato sauce, bourbon, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, liquid smoke, garlic powder, sea salt and cayenne pepper. You put the chicken in the slow cooker, combine all the other ingredients in a saucepan and cook the sauce, mashing up the peaches. You pour the cooked sauce over the chicken thighs and cook them in your slow cooker for 8 hours. I'll have to confess - I did not have any bourbon so I left it out when I prepared this recipe. We enjoyed this entree. The chicken came out meltingly tender. I thought the sauce was a little thin and could have been improved with a little cornstarch to thicken it.

Some of the recipes are very simple indeed. The recipe for "Baked" Sweet Potatoes has 1 ingredient - you guessed it - scrubbed sweet potatoes. You wrap them in foil and cook them on low in your slow cooker for 8 hours, and unwrap them to serve. This may be the first recipe I have ever seen with a solo ingredient! I think there are some great helpful additions on some of the recipe pages. Some recipes have a write-up in the margin of a Precooking Tip for that specific recipe. Other recipes have A Balanced Meal margin addition - what other foods you can serve with that recipe to make a balanced meal.

This books is a brilliant and well thought out resource. It is packed with great tips like this and fantastic, flavorful recipes to make the most of your slow cooker. I'm just wishing now I'd purchased the physical copy so I could bookmark pages, highlight my favorite tips, and dog-ear the recipes I want to try next. The next part is all about using your slow cooker. If you're like me, you're thinking "I know how to use my slow cooker, I just turn it on and walk away" right? Well I learned a ton from this book!! Did you know there's a way to delay start your slow cooker--no matter how old it is! Do you know which should go on the bottom of the pot: meat or vegetables? I now know vegetables should go on bottom. (OOPS I've been doing it wrong all along!) and how full should the slow cooker be for best cooking results? Which is better in the slow cooker: fresh or dried herbs? The answer surprised me. These answers and their related explanations are all inside this book. I learned a lot of great tips and tricks in this book, and that's even before it got to the healthy recipes!!

This is a great resource especially for anyone new

This is a great resource especially for anyone new to eating healthy! Even though the book is called a "DASH" cookbook, it is so much more! DASH is short for "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension," meaning a meal plan for people struggling with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It certainly offers that, but I got a lot of great information and recipes out of this book and I don't have issues with either one. The book begins by explaining what the DASH guidelines are and why. Then it goes on to offer other general healthy eating considerations and even lists specific foods to eat and avoid on each category (I found that part VERY helpful).

Though all of the recipes in this book fit the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, they are great for anyone looking to eat healthier, more whole foods. Recipes range from simple rice, quinoa, and more to all sorts of soups, stews, and desserts. The fact that they are relatively fast and easy to make is a bonus -- as a busy mom, I'm always looking for ways to get a healthy meal on the table more quickly! The front of the book includes details about the DASH diet, slow-cooking tips, and other helpful information. The cover is beautiful. I just wish the inside of the book included photos of at least some of the recipes, which I always find helpful when cooking. Can't wait to try out some of the recipes! OK, confession time: I had no idea what DASH was w

OK, confession time: I had no idea what DASH was when I purchased this book. It was only after I started looking through it that I discovered that it means Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension. I don't have hypertension so I don't care about that, I was just interested in it because it was a slow cooker cookbook. I absolutely love my slow cooker and like trying new recipes in it. This cookbook is fantastic! It has some great broth recipes to start things out, which is always helpful as I'd rather use homemade broth in a recipe than store bought. It also has a recipe for pumpkin soup which I can't wait to try (especially since I just roasted and pureed 20 cups of pumpkin today!) We tend to eat low(ish) carb in my household so some of the recipes we aren't interested in, but there are several that we can modify to fit our low-carb needs, like the clam chowder for instance. We would use heavy whipping cream instead of milk and radishes instead of potatoes. Chinese hot pot? Yes, please! I can hardly wait to try some of these recipes out. I glad to get this book because this is a perfect solution for weight loss my family is also satisfied and I happy to give it a good rating because now I can give a healthy lifestyle to my family.this book enables a peruser to comprehend why the DASH Approach is best casted a ballot and the most beneficial eating plan. I absolutely loved this book. If you follow it the way it says, you will lose weight fast in the first two weeks . I loss 8 pounds in two weeks. The next two weeks I loss 5 pounds. And I feel great on this Dash Diet. I have a way to go but this book has taught me how to eat foods that will help with the weight lost. I don't even feel hungry, awesome.

I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone who has weight issues, high cholesterol level or simply wants to change the weekly menu in favor of the healthy options. In one month of following this diet closely, I've lost nearly twenty pounds – my blood pressure is back to normal, and I'm not going to close the book (cookbook to be exact) on this. If you want to lose weight and wish to stay healthy at the same time, DASH is the diet to try. Probably one of the best DASH Diet cookbooks on the market. Love most of the recipes in it.

I initially purchased this book in kindle format.

I initially purchased this book in kindle format. It is nice to have a portable book when shopping at the store and checking on what ingredients I need for a recipe but it is not nearly as awesome as the print book. Unless you hate print GET THE PHYSICAL BOOK. (Or go ahead and get both like I did.) It is beautiful and well organized. The first recipe I made was the allspice muffins. I LOVE them and so does my family.

Love, love the Dash Diet. I followed it for 10 days using only the recipes in the original book, and lost weight without feeling hungry or deprived. Therefore decided to order the actual cookbook. I love the recipes and how they are separated by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc). Wonderful diet plan, simple to use, recipes are great, not difficult to prepare and are not time consuming. Good book!

I'm looking forward to cooking every single recipe from this cookbook, as those I've tried already have been delish and easy. I've already altered my diet and will continue to do so according to the plan. You can't have too much experimentation with healthy foods, and this cookbook has offered me a whole bunch of ideas to have fun with.Discovered a new world of recipes! Just bought it for my kindle. Wow! Fantastic!

Wow! Fantastic! I bought 3 of them. For my daughter, granddaughter and me. I am experienced pressure cooker user and thought the book had great easy to use recipes in book. My daughter and granddaughter are new to using a instant pot. The recipes give very good details on how to use the cooker. How to set it up to use, how much liquid to use, when to us the instant pressure relese and when to not. Really good book a on explaing and easy not complicated recipes to use. Just a really good book. Dash Diet is amazing! I am loving this one! Thanks author

Great and useful techniques!

Well done! Plain-easy-detailed, explanations. The pictures were lovely, but when it comes down to it, the food has to be good. Loved it! I've lost 30 lbs on Dash, I will not be going back now. I have never had a hungry day, all it took was the courage to try and to cook and shop on a regular basis. BonAppetit! A lovely to have!

I have loved this book so far.

I have loved this book so far. The information in the beginning of the book regarding the DASH diet is well thought out and easy to read. I love that it touches on other aspects of health, as well (exercise, sleep, hydration, etc.). Most of the recipes we’ve tried have been a hit with the whole family (me, my husband and two young children). Creative book!
