Più che descrivere, Conrad dipinge con colori cupi i paesaggi affascinanti e primitivi nei quali si muovono i protagonisti di questo bellissimo romanzo. Piacque molto anche a Francis Ford Coppola, che si ispirò proprio a Cuore di Tenebra, quando scrisse e poi diresse l'indimenticabile Apocalypse Now, vincitore di due premi Oscar.
