Life hacks from insecure over-achievers
- By papapownall on 15-06-20
Summary
Four-time New York Times best-selling author Gary Vaynerchuk offers new lessons and inspiration drawn from the experiences of dozens of influencers and entrepreneurs who rejected the predictable corporate path in favor of pursuing their dreams by building thriving businesses and extraordinary personal brands.
In his 2009 international best seller Crush It, Gary insisted that a vibrant personal brand was crucial to entrepreneurial success. In Crushing It! Gary explains why that's even more true today, offering his unique perspective on what has changed and what principles remain timeless. He also shares stories from other entrepreneurs who have grown wealthier - and not just financially - than they ever imagined possible by following Crush It principles. The secret to their success (and Gary's) has everything to do with their understanding of the social media platforms and their willingness to do whatever it took to make these tools work to their utmost potential. That's what Crushing It! teaches listeners to do.
In this lively, practical, and inspiring audiobook, Gary dissects every current major social media platform so that anyone, from a plumber to a professional ice skater, will know exactly how to amplify his or her personal brand on each. He offers both theoretical and tactical advice on how to become the biggest thing on old standbys like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat; podcast platforms like Spotify, Soundcloud, iHeartRadio, and iTunes; and other emerging platforms such as Musical.ly. For those with more experience, Crushing It! illuminates some little-known nuances and provides innovative tips and clever tweaks proven to enhance more common tried-and-true strategies.
Crushing It! is a state-of-the-art guide to building your own path to professional and financial success, but it's not about getting rich. It's a blueprint to living life on your own terms.

Best book I’ve listened to in 2018
No Exaggeration!! I enjoyed this book more than I could ever have imagined. I took so much information and energy away from it. It’s the first audio book I’ve listened to with the author going off script and putting in his two cents. It felt like we were having a conversation. I loved it. I’m going to have this on repeat for the rest of my life!

The only book to read for anyone to change your destiny
I was so excited when the audio launched despite having the book as well. This is awesome content as it has a few updated tips since the book came out . This is not only for entrepreneurial minds to be able to listen to when you time poor like I am. I drive to work for 1 hour and will finish this audio in less than a week but most of all I will take from it is implementation to maximise the benefit of the little TIME we have today as Gary says time is our only currency-don’t waste it ! this audio is a fast track to absorbing the content and please do yourself a favour apply what you have listened to and get the value that is left on the table it is up to us to make that leap of faith definitely a book or audio on your must read list recommended

Not what I expected.
I expected this to be a book by Gary V. in parts it is, but a huge amount of it seems to be 'crowdsourced' stories of people who are 'crushing it' after reading Gary V's book, 'Crush it'. It's like one big, long ad for another book.
The stories are still inspiring (to a degree) and the narration etc is great (great to have Rich Roll in there), but if you are looking for a guidance the recurring theme seems to be to go and read 'crush it' instead.
Nothing against Gary V either, I'd highly recommend reading his book 'jab, jab right hook' instead.

deceptive title & blurb, just one long advert
So, in the blurb Gary V promises to unleash the tools to teach you how to be an internet savvy business or brand owner with a decent grasp on how to make all the social media platforms work for you and increase your exposure to new customers. What you actually get is an 8 hour long advert for his other book (confusing as it's called 'crush it') There are repeated references to 'crush it' and it took quite some time for me to grasp he was actually talking about a completely different book, not referencing a system he was later to reveal in this book (crushing it) Basically he introduces a host of people who are 'crushing it' by using the principles laid out in his other book (crush it) but doesn't actually explain what those principles are in this book (crushing it). \this should be marketed as additional reading for those that have already read the other book, NOT deceptively marketed as a stand-alone product. I have wasted 8 hours of my life with this (well 6 actually as I gave up on it before the end) and hope to save you from doing the same.

OK for motivation
The book is okay for motivation. Gary is spending 80% of the books content by giving example of how other people got positive reault after reading his first book. So this books is more a commercial for the first book and doesn't give much new in return. And its all written in the headline so no big surprise "How Great Entrepreneurs Build Their Business and Influence-and How You Can, Too". The book is failing to deliver the last part "and How You Can, Too". Since you need to be reading in-between lines yourself to reflect on your own business. So if you are already running a business this book might motivate you and give you some directions on where to do your marketing, but don't expect to many "How to".

Disappointing considering the author
I really expected a knock your socks off book considering who wrote it. What the book is- a series of stories of people using social media to advertise their business or get started on a business. What it’s not- a how to book. It is a bunch of ideas, but not a bunch of steps. The introduction talked about a couple different businesses and which social media platform is best for that but that was really only cover through very specific examples. Here is the whole book- find your passion. Connect with others through social media. Be yourself and let your personality shine through. Use every platform out there. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the right person invites you to do something for s big company that you might get paid for. Contact people. Post more content. Contact them again. Post even more. Cross fingers.

85% fluff and 15% value.
This is with most books, but for some reason I was really expecting this to be super dense. For me, it seemed just as sparse as most books because it was littered with story after story of anecdotal information. I personally prefer specific step-by-step strategies or fact based information. There were definitely bits of gold throughout, but I got those more when Gary was talking, which is about 60% of the time. The rest are stories from others. With that being said, maybe I missed something. So I’m giving it a re-listen because I had crazy high expectations! :)

Common sense don't expect any wow moments
Seemed like an 8 hour lesson on common sense with stories written by others that flip-flop between first second and third person. 1, Work harder than your competition to get ahead 2, treat customers how you would like to be treated 3, do what you love because you will be spending a big part of your life on it. Duh.

Very disappointed
A book completely filled with testimonials about his Crush It book. A waste of time and money. I ended up increasing the narration speed to to try and get to good content... I honestly didn't learn anything about social media marketing. Any motivation that I would have gained was ruined by all the testimonial reviews of his previous book. I feel dooped and will be asking for a refund...

Meh!!
It’s was ok, good not great. A bit over rated actually. To many hypothetical scenarios story telling that drag on way to long. What if....A couple, takes up dancing, but is over weight, then starts exercising, then makes a YouTube videos, then gives advice, then strengthens their marriage, then gets picked up by a TV station, then invents dance moves, then becomes millionaires etc etc etc. Lots of story telling that “could” happen... On top of that the real life success story’s that actually happened, read by the person it happened to, kept reading in 3rd person then going back and forth referring to themselves in the first person, 2nd and 3rd person, got annoying

Don't Bother
I was only able to make it to 1:35:37 before I had to give up on this "book". The summary of the book leads you to believe it falls into the self-help category, but in reality this "book" is just a big sales pitch for the author's first book (Crush It). It's just the author, and other folks who read the author's first book, talking about why Crush It is so awesome and how it changed their lives. This is not what I thought the book would be.
