Story
We know of psychopaths from chilling headlines and stories in the news and movies - from Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy, to Hannibal Lecter and Dexter Morgan. As Dr. Kent Kiehl shows, psychopaths can be identified by a checklist of symptoms that includes pathological lying; lack of empathy, guilt, and remorse; grandiose sense of self-worth; manipulation; and failure to accept one’s actions. But why do psychopaths behave the way they do? Is it the result of their environment - how they were raised - or is there a genetic component to their lack of conscience?

A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's fascinating and humorous quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

It is not in the natural wiring of a man (or woman) to take another man's life. It is even more unnatural when the person has a compulsion to keep taking lives, so that he satisfies some twisted craving. The psychology of serial killers is a bit difficult to explore. The reason is that it is not something that is set in rigid boundaries. It appears that after every murder, an extra layer is added to it. It also appears that the humane side of a serial killer dies a little more with every killing.

Few serial killers in history have garnered as much attention as Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. Although Dahmer killed 17 young men and boys, it was not so much the number of people he killed that makes him stand out among famous serial killers, but more so the acts of depravity that he committed on the corpses of his victims. In this true crime story, you will listen to how Dahmer transitioned from a loner to serial killer, committing numerous unnatural acts along the way such as necrophilia and cannibalism.

Fabulous book

Summary
Learn what goes on in the criminal mind of a serial killer. Now with two new chapters!
Go inside the twisted mind of a serial killer!
To the untrained eye, a serial killer looks just like any other member of the public. They wear clothes, they eat food, and they go about their daily lives as any normal person would do. But there is a difference about them, which is unquantifiable. It is the deadly secret that all serial killers hide from the outside world. If they weren’t able to conceal this secret so well, many cold-blooded killings could have been prevented. So if we could see deep within their souls and spot the things that made them the way they are, maybe we can stop them from becoming serial killers in the first place.
With this book, I aim to get inside the mind of a serial killer, to reveal what makes them tick and to see if there are any personality traits that are the same across the wide range of different serial killers through time. Finally, I will take a look at the top five serial killer personalities and 10 of the most famous serial killers in history. This will give us insight into the mind of a serial killer and a better understanding of the things that turn people into cold and calculating killing machines....
Do you find serial killers interesting? Would you like to get a glimpse inside the mind of a serial killer? Then get this book now!

A Good Overview And Examples.
This is a well written, short but informative overview of what a serial killer is and is not and the potential nature and nurture of his or her development. Through famous examples we are shown how normal, on the outside, these monsters are and how they often lure their victims. It is a disquieting listen but narrated very well so as not to sensationalise the topic. In my opinion it should have been somewhat longer.

Not bad.
So, this book is really short and only worth it if you don't know a thing about serial killers. It works nicely as an introductory, albeit very basic, text.
