Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

An All the President's Men for the Trump era: the never-before-told inside story of the Steele Dossier and the Trump-Russia investigation.

In the autumn of 2015, the founders of the US political research firm Fusion GPS, Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, were hired by a Republican presidential candidate to look into the records of Donald Trump. What began as a march through a mind-boggling trove of lawsuits and sketchy overseas projects soon took a darker turn, as they became the first to uncover Trump's disturbing ties to the Kremlin and the crimes that since have plagued his presidency.

To help them decipher this alarming evidence, they engaged the services of an old acquaintance, the former British MI6 agent and Russia expert Christopher Steele. Steele would produce the notorious dossier which disclosed that the Trump team was deeply compromised by a hostile foreign power bent on disrupting the West and influencing the US presidential election.

In Crime in Progress, the authors - and Steele - break their silence for the first time, chronicling their high-stakes investigation and their desperate efforts to warn both the American and British governments, the FBI and the media, to little avail - and no matter the costs. Yet when the dossier finally exploded onto the world stage after a leak, a 10-person research firm above a Starbucks in Washington was thrust into the centre of the biggest news story on the planet - a story that would lead to the Mueller report and disrupt Trump's secret planned rapprochement with Putin's Russia that could have re-ordered the western alliance. After four years on his trail, the authors' inescapable conclusion is that Trump is an asset of the Russian government, whether he knows it or not.

A real-life political thriller with the makings of a modern classic, Crime in Progress is the definitive story of the pursuit of the truth about Trump and one of the greatest betrayals in American history.

The Americans love a charlatan! And voted for one!

I often ask the question: Why didn't the GOP, do due diligence on Trump?
If they'd done this, they wouldn't have touched Trump with a barge pole!
It's clear they did!

The book details the complete failure of the American election system!
The press failed! The GOP failed! The Democrats failed! All roads lead to Putin!

Donald is a complete charlatan! However, the Americans love the fake! Donald therefore comes as no suprise.
The only redeeming thing is, the truth will (eventually) out!

A book I thoroughly recommend.

Excellent

Very well-narrated - full marks for that.

I have read and listened to a number of these exposé books around Trump's "win". This is easily one of the best. The writing is clear and concise. The information is presented in a non-sensationalist way - this is very much about what Trump, Putin and their respective teams have done to put an "utter numpty" into the US presidency.

The next US election cycle is just getting started - this book shows how the world is where it is, and how much the US needs a presidential candidate with honesty, integrity and an IQ in triple digits.

BEST YET BLOW BY BLOW ACCOUNT

I have read widely around this issue, including several Audible books such as Trump V's the United States by Michael Schmidt, which was also excellent, but this takes you inside the drama and provides new insights into the activities of the likes of Grassley and Devin Nunes. It also throws a rather less flattering light on Bill Browder, which came as a surprise. Well paced, almost in the style of a thriller. Highly recommended.

Troubling

I have now read many books on this subject and for me this is one of the most troubling. Could all this have happened right in front of Americans? Could the same be said of Brexit and the British?
Read it and see what impact the mechanizations of greedy people motivated by financial gain and not patriotism have had on our future. Truly wealth equals power in todays world. Pity the poor, who will protect them, If not their democratically elected governments?
