Summary
Please note: This audiobook is in French.

Enjoyable
Where does Crime à Cannes [Crime in Cannes] rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I'm studying French and am now at an intermediate level. I was able to understand this book which is entirely in French. The plot is quite entertaining. If you are a fluent speaker, you might find the story a bit simplistic. For me, it was at a perfect level.
What does Christian Lause bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
If you want to improve your French listening skills, this audio version is the way to go. The author obviously likes his central characters. They are a bit quirky but very likeable. The author's French is very easy to understand.

Another fun mystery to listen to for comprehension
Another fun mystery from Christian Lause to read, listen to, and study French! (This is the second book I listened to by him) It's an excellent way to learn new vocabulary, see the conjugations in action, in an engaging way, and to hear the language used in a natural way, not those stupid CDs that come with textbooks! He's the perfect narrator for the books. I'm starting the next one right away.

parfait pour mes etudes!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would! Of course, to a student of French like myself. I was very pleasantly surprised with Crime a Cannes and immediately purchased a few others in the series. It was very clearly read, with lots of expression, and was done with the French-as-a-second-language learner in mind: not too fast, clearly enunciated, with a story just interesting enough (and thankfully, simple enough) that I got neither bored nor lost.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Well, no, not exactly; it's not that kind of book. I was just happy to find an audiobook in French that wasn't way over my head. I read lots of novels in French, but it's one thing when you are reading and can look up words; it's a different animal listening to an audiobook in French. This book is a great way to segue into more difficult (made for native speakers, the level of what I listen to in English!) books in French.
What about Christian Lause’s performance did you like?
I thought the reader(s?) was/were great, full of expression and humor.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Well, no...but I also liked that it wasn't hours and hours, either. I got through it in a few days.
Any additional comments?
Keep this sort of thing coming! I am an ESL teacher myself and I know there's lots available for various levels of ESL learners (perhaps not on audible.com, but I don't know - will look!) in the area of graded readers. I was happy to find something similar for French learners!
I think there's a big market out there in audiobooks (NOT language textbooks per se but actual stories, at different levels!) for English as a Second Language learners, and I wouldn't be surprised if you found a lot of French, Spanish, and Italian learners looking for this sort of thing as well. And when you are ready to get into Japanese, call me! I lived in Japan for 26 years, was mostly in language education, and I could help.

Perfect French Refresher
Would you consider the audio edition of Crime à Cannes [Crime in Cannes] to be better than the print version?
Only have the audio and it is just what I needed. It is read perfectly in clear and carefully enunciated, yet very realistic French. As I settled into listening to the narrative, I found my ability to follow and comprehend French improving by the minute--a perfect refresher for once fluent but rusty French.
What other book might you compare Crime à Cannes [Crime in Cannes] to and why?
Only the others of this series--wish there were more similar French narratives geared for mid-level French
What about Christian Lause’s performance did you like?
Good and clear and entertaining--manages to get the different characters and voices well
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not quite--as I was refreshing my French, it helped to work on it in medium sized chunks to make sure I remained focused--the companion workbook really helps as a review after listening. Then, another listen, after consulting the companion text really all falls into place.
Any additional comments?
Very well done. . . I downloaded the next one and am about to listen to it -- preparing for a trip to France next month--a perfect fun way to review!

Tres bien pour moi!
What did you love best about Crime à Cannes [Crime in Cannes]?
Well read with clear articulation and emotive voices. I would find it too simplistic in English but for an intermediate French speaker such as myself, it holds the attention. I listened to it several times and each time I understood a little better.
