Summary

Beth Baxter always dreamt of being an author. Unfortunately, fate has a twisted sense of humour so rather than writing books, she now sells them in a second-hand bookshop. With middle-age approaching and her life unfulfilled, Beth is at least grateful her forthcoming marriage to Karl is worthy of hope — or, so she thought.

When her fiancé’s sordid past catches up with him, Beth finds herself embroiled in a sinister game of hide and seek. As her life is torn apart and all appears lost, Beth is thrown an unlikely lifeline when a former gangland fixer called Clement crashes into her life, offering to help.

Unfortunately for Beth, there is one minor complication with her saviour — Clement claims he died in 1975 and must help Beth as penance for sins committed in his previous life.

With just seven days to avoid a fate she can’t bear to contemplate, Beth chooses the lesser of two evils and reluctantly joins her deluded, politically incorrect companion on a quest across London in search of a solution.

Will this unlikely partnership succeed? Will Clement ever come to terms with paying five quid for a pint? And will Beth ever learn the truth about who sent Clement?

An enjoyable romp

Not my usual type of book but I bought it in a whim. And I listened from beginning to end, over a period of three days. Some said they didn’t like the narrator- but the truth is- I did. Nothing desperately cerebral, but sometimes you need something enjoyable.

From the writer of the 86 fix

I loved this book and cannot wait for the next instalment to arrive on audio.
The narrator I found was brilliant, very relaxing to listen to, only one problem was the production was not at its best. With the change of chapters the audio volume was considerably lower than the end of the last chapter in a few places, this soon levelled out as the chapter progressed. This didn’t deter from the enjoyment of the book.

The story was fun and moved along at a very quick speed, the main characters I found were very likeable.
Keith Pearson is another British author that I put on my must read list, I love his fun style of writing that reminds me of Nick Spalding.
The ideas are quirky and put together well. There are some Laugh out moments, If you have read the 86 fix I highly recommend giving this one a go.

Great story!

A great story, captured me from the start and I listened to the whole book in a couple of days and straight on to the next. Its been in my wish list for ages so glad I finally decided to listen. Great narrator.

Nearly gave up on this

I almost gave up on this book after the first chapter. Thought it was going to be cliched and soppy. Happily, I stuck with it and really enjoyed the story and the narration, which was excellent.
I look forward to the next episode in Clement’s redemption.

Feel good!

I really enjoyed this book. It’s was humorous with great characters and I didn’t want to stop listening.
Although some bits of the story seemed unlikely to have happened in real life it was still engrossing and a great listen.
This book was recommended so now for the next one!

A Good Yarn

I really enjoyed listening to 'Who Sent Clement'! Plenty of of humour and layers throughout. There are two separate storylines which interlace. Clement's story and Beth's story. Clement is a 'force of nature, a character'' and remains an enigma at the end of the book. The author undermines Beth's character because of the implausible situation he drops her in. I found it hard to believe that Beth would yield so easily to the initial demands and threats made on her. However, if she had not, the writer would not have had a story to write and I would not have had an audio book to listen to and enjoy!

Utterly Brilliant!

Incredible storyline, loved the development of the relationship between the 2 main characters and the bonkers predicament they found themselves in. Narrator was superbly talented, so much so, I couldn't stop listening to it ... finished in 3 days! I'm planning to buy the next in the series. Superb audible, thank you one and all!

Enjoyable, looking forward to the next book..

Very enjoyable, great characters, sucked me in to the story and I wanted to get back to it whenever I could.

I wasnt sure about the Beth character, seemed a little self-centred, whiney, especially with Clement who does so much for her throughout. I aslo wondered what happend to a couple of other characters that appeared and then don't return.

I enjoyed Cassie Layton's narration, but did find a few of the voices for the villans a bit jarring, slightliy too high-pitched.

Looking forward to the next book in the series, KAP is turning into my newest fave author.

Good Premise, No twists, Terrible Main Character, Awful Narration.

The premise is good and enjoyable to follow. It is very, very predictable throughout, but honestly that’s okay every now and then. Unchallenging though the book is, the main female character is very challenging indeed and if I had been one of her previous boyfriends I would’ve ditched the crazy and thoroughly unpleasant woman like all her ex-interests apparently had. I liked the other main character, but feel he could’ve been developed a little further, however he is still of interest and likeable. If it wasn’t for the absolutely ridiculous voice the narrator used for his passages of speech, I would’ve liked him far more.

The narrator has a lovely spoken voice and perfect tempo. That’s the positive. The negative was the insistence to put on awful accents for all the main male characters….. every single one of them. Utterly cringeworthy and unnecessary as it was clear that it was still her speaking and she sounded ridiculous….. close your eyes and picture a bad pantomime and you would not be far off.

Anyway, If reading this, you can cheer up Mr Pearson. It was an easy ride, a bit of good fun and the first in the series. I can forgive lots. I have already bought the second, living in hope that the silly voices have been left out this time.
