Summary

All she wanted was the truth, but she'll wish she never found out.

When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing - except him.

Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn't just leave her. He wouldn't leave the children.

But Simon knows the truth - about why he left and what he's done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.

While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon's halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He's doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.

But he can't hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.

And wish she'd stayed in the dark.

Riveting read! I loved it. Kept me quessing right until the end. I also enjoyed both narrators.

Thrilling right to the end.

I would strongly recommend this exciting novel with its many twists and turns. Difficult to tear oneself away from the novel.

Not as good as expected for lots of reasons.

My normal listen is usually in the ‘psychological thriller’ genre because I love a mystery with twists and turns. The reviews for this book made me decide to risk the ‘Suspense’ category as many people seemed impressed.
I don’t know whether it is because I’m so used to surprises in stories now, but I didn’t find any of the twists in this book surprising. You could anticipate them at least an hour before they happened and this made the ending a bit of a let down.
I also struggled with the actual characters, not warming to either of them meant although I was intrigued in the first half of the book, I found myself not much caring about what happened to them.
Although the two narrators did a good job individually, I found the two contrasting styles didn’t compliment each other, specifically concerning the accents they both used. I found it didn’t flow from one chapter to the next as they both had completely different sound and styles and for example the female character when voiced by the female narrator was a completely different style to when the male narrator said her parts.
Overall I was intrigued but let down by quite a bit of the story. It felt padded out with unnecessary information and details when the story needed to progress. 3 stars.

A bit far fetched

The narration was excellent by both, however I found the story really rather unbelievable. It was a good twist at the end but I just really struggle to believe anyone would react to situations the way the main characters did and this marred the book for me. If only I could give examples without spoiling it but unfortunately I can’t.
It was, however, an ok read/listen when not wanting to shout at my phone! I’m just glad I got it on sale.

Great book

Very entertaining, great author but I knocked a star off because the story is too miserable! Was a bit predictable but really upsetting. But still a good read.

dark. shocking. enthralling.

what a story. each time when I thought I knew the characters I was proved wrong. this is a great story. unique, well narrated. couldn't stop listening. it stayed with me for a long time, how wrong people can be and how stupid men are.

Utterly brilliant

One of the best books I've ever read. Filled with so many twists and turns, a lot you don't see coming. I couldn't stop reading this book and finished it in a day and a half. I urge everyone to read this book. It is worth every second.
