Publisher's Summary

All she wanted was the truth, but she'll wish she never found out.

When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing - except him.

Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn't just leave her. He wouldn't leave the children.

But Simon knows the truth - about why he left and what he's done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.

While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon's halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He's doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.

But he can't hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.

And wish she'd stayed in the dark.

    "Unbelievable"

So a 5 month pregnant woman walks a mile to a doctor while miscarryiing, aborts at the surgery, walks back to work where nobody has even noticed she'd gone. Need I say more? The whole book is that ridiculous.

    "This novel has issues!"

When You Disappeared could have been a great novel if a competent author had taken the plot concept and written the novel. it is still a marginally good psychological thriller. The story is told in the first person of the female protagonist and the male antagonist with Elizabeth Knowelden reading the female part very well and Simon Mattacks reading the male part not so well. My main issue with the novel is that it is so chopped up that it's difficult for the listener to keep pace as the novel goes back and forth constantly over a 28 year time period. The novel hits the time periods in seemingly random order.

Summary: Great plot concept with poor implementation due to dizzyingly frequent skips back and forth over 28 years; poor narration by the male narrator.

"I Wish This Novel Would Dissappear"

I thought nothing of this book. 😳Actually I felt like Katherine after her run in with Dougie. I felt numb all over. The only reason you see stars... is because this story hit me like a ton of bricks? No seriously...lol... for the narrator's Mattacks & Knoweldon you were awesome to even read this hot mess of words. Don't believe the hype of them five 🌟storyline reviews...this was a flat liner...dead audiobook to me. The writer smh could have thrown in so kind of angle?
I feel it's my civil duty to report the good bad and down right ugly. This wasn't a thrilling ride or even a mysyery. I think Mars should sell this novel to...
Life Time television with all the dual drama and savagnes. Overall this story does not get any points from me. I simply felt bad for the artists that narrated this book ... well thats if ... Marrs wasnt Simon Mattacks himself. If my name were Simon I wouldn't have dared...to narrate this audiobook. Simply weird bizarre bullcrap.
The End. This review is based on my opinion...you may think otherwise...if u do...then buy it?😁....I'm out ...✌!

    "Simon is one sick individual"

I thoroughly disliked Simon so the author did his job well. Although the book reads like a memoir I was hooked. I had to find out what Kitty had done to send this man into a downward spiral. All I can say is wow. Secrets and insecurities and the lack of communication and the misguided notion of perfection destroyed a family.

"When You Disappeared (a fitting title)"

When You Disappeared tells the story of generations of messed up genes and messed up people. We all come into this world innocent and are immediately mutilated by the ones who have long lost their innocence and are now prepared to be our judge and executioner. This is neither the story of one man and one woman nor the story of one family and friends. Instead it is the story of a simple thread beginning generations before that wove itself into the lives of the different people inheriting it, while becoming heavier with pain to destroy each person. Mental illness must be recognized and treated, without judgment, or each of us will be destroyed in the end.

    "Why? Totally Useless Story"

I wanted to like this book, however it just fell flat... I seriously didn't care for any of the characters or the plot, for that matter. No purpose to the story. I came away with nothing.
Wasted credit for sure. Narration was good enough.

    "You'll Love To Hate Simon"

Great psychological thriller. I loved to hate Simon and twisted things he did over the course of 28 years. Surprise after shocking revelation made this book impossible to put down.

"Don't look for redemption in this story! There is none!"

This is a horrible story of a man who has no forgiveness and can act without conscience. He lives by "an eye for an eye" and can only count what's been done to him, and how he can return the favor. I think I finished the book to find out how the score is finally settled. Not the greatest incentive.

    "Almost a Five"

This was an interesting saga. I find it hard to write a review without giving too much away. I've never alternated so much between liking and hating the characters as I did with this book. I never saw the last twist coming - very clever.

"This author knows how to draw you in!"

This is a novel about assumptions leading to horrible decisions. It'll draw you in and refuse to let you go. One of the best listens I've enjoyed in a while. Buy it. It's worth actual dollars if you're out of credits!

    "Awful"

    DNF
I couldn't get into this book. Well to be honest the first few chapters were intriguing but then my hate for Simon grew so thick I couldn't get past it. So I read some spoilers, pretty much unfolded the way I assumed it would and walked away.
    Horrible, terrible! Just plain Yuck!
