Summary

Marnie Logan often feels like she's being watched. Nothing she can quite put her finger on - a whisper of breath on the back of her neck, or a shadow in the corner of her eye - and now her life is frozen. Her husband Daniel has been missing for more than a year.

Depressed and increasingly desperate, she seeks the help of clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin. Joe is concerned by Marnie's reluctance to talk about the past, but then she discovers a book packed with pictures, interviews with friends, former teachers, old flames and workmates Daniel was preparing for her birthday. It was supposed to be a celebration of her life. But it's not the story anyone was expecting...

and a sting in the tail

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Without doubt. The thing is, it was not predictable. At every chapter there was a twist, but it was not a twist for the sake of a twist, nor was it unlikely. I found all the plot to be plausible.

What did you like best about this story?

The book created an atmosphere of being watched...as intended. Even when not listening to the book, there was a legacy of suspicion, paranoia in the back of my mind. How sad is it that I deliberately created driving chores and went to bed early....in order to find out what was happening next....!!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The last two minutes.... Great characters, great character interplay and yip. the sting in the tail....

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

....you might NOT be that paranoid....

Any additional comments?

I must comment on the talents of the narrator, Sean Barrett.
Absolutely fabulous performance. Super super super.

Someone is watching
Vengeful guardian angel.

We all have a guardian angel but not all of them are dangerous to you.

When Stalking gets Extreme

What made the experience of listening to Watching You the most enjoyable?

"Watching You" by Michael Robotham is a very exciting, wellwritten thriller novel, which succesfully draws on the authors knowledge/research arund both psychoogy and physiology. Especiallly the psychology behind stalking of other people. The twisted and malplaced love of another person. But a kind of love all the same. It also dwells into the murky depths of what makes a person go out of their way to protect total strangers, and even commit serious crimes in order to protect the person being stalked.

In addition the very rare condition of a true split personality disorder is explored and explained to the reader in a very accurate way.

The novel's pace is a bit slow for the first part of the book, but then it really takes off. The reader really get several surprises as the plot twists and turns.

As in other of Robotham's novel follow the professor Joe O'Loughlin, Parkinson's decease patient and clinical psychologist. In a cast filled with more or less unpleasant people including cops, lawyers and doctors, Joe stands out as the true hero of the book.
Undaunted by his illness he is determined to pursue the demons (real and imaginative) who surrounds the victim of the plot: Marny, a inpoverished young woman, mother driven to work as a part-time prostitute since her husband, Danny, went missing for several years.

But is Marny really a victim - or is she victimising herself and other?

What other book might you compare Watching You to, and why?

"Say you're sorry" by Michael Robotham

What does Sean Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Sean Barrett is one of the best allround audio book performer that I know of. Giving voice to both crude police officer, insane killers and little girls with equal trustworthiness. Sean Barrett's performance makes the book even better than it would be if you read it.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Lethal Love!"

This book is a litery 'white-knuckle' ride.

Watching You is full of suspense from the start to the amazing finish, Alfred Hitchcok would have made an incredible film of this book. Full of twists & turns, every time I thought I'd worked it out a new factor cropped up & it was back to square 1. Right from the beginning of the story when the narator began to speak I had shivers down my spine, he had the perfect voice for this book. An excellent read.

You could be watching the film

What made the experience of listening to Watching You the most enjoyable?

The narration of this book is oustanding. Sean Barrett is able to do so many voices and accents, it brings the whole story alive.

What other book might you compare Watching You to, and why?

This is a real page turner, that will turn you into an unsociable person as you block out the world to become ingrossed in a tale of suspense that, like a good meal, you don't want to end.

Which character – as performed by Sean Barrett – was your favourite?

The main character, writing in the first person. You know right from the start that you are dealing with a particularly evil person.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Not all guardian angels are

Any additional comments?

Brilliant story, but Sean Barrett made this a favorite audio book. I will be looking out for other books he has narrated for sure.
