Summary

When Atlanta police detective Michael Ormewood is called out to a murder scene at the notorious Grady Homes, he finds himself faced with one of the the most brutal killings of his career: Aleesha Monroe is found in the stairwell in a pool of her own blood, her body horribly mutilated. As a one-off killing it's shocking, but when it becomes clear that it's just the latest in a series of similar attacks, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are called in, and Ormewood is forced into working with Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Apprehension Team, a man he instinctively dislikes.

But then, only 24 hours later, the violence Michael sees around him every day explodes in his own back yard. And it seems the mystery behind Monroe's death is inextricably entangled with a past that refuses to stay buried.

Critic reviews

"Rape, murder and mutilation ¿ and that¿s just the beginning of Karen Slaughter¿s Triptych, a standalone thriller from the author of the Grant County series of bestsellers. Here she¿s in even more chilling form as Michael Ormewood, an Atlanta police detective investigate the brutal slaying of Aleesha Moore. The reader, Brian Keith Lewis, is excellent." ( Daily Express)
"Don't read this alone. Don't read this after dark. But do read it" ( Mirror)

Well read, less well developed

The narrator does a great job, but cannot quite make up for a storyline that starts very well, holds up for the first third but then does not deliver on the initial promise. The Will / Faith relationship has really deep possibilities yet just when it could be exploited and mined it gets very superficial and shallow. Shall I read the next in rhe series ? Jury is out .

Story ok

It was an ok story albeit predictable. I didn’t enjoy the performance. It was a bit broken, too many pauses.

Awful pacing

Great plot and interesting characters but the pacing was so abysmal that I was relieved when it was over.

nice little crime story shame about narrator

the narrators attempt at female voices wasnt great and didnt manage to pull off a sense of seduction or emotion. I didnt buy into ir feel the connection between will and angie because of the narrator . however it was a nice little crime story x

Can't go wrong with Karin Slaughter!

Would you listen to Triptych again? Why?

I had already read this book (and most of Karin Slaughter's back catalogue) but my husband wanted a good audiobook so I suggested we start at the beginning! I love the Will Trent series and will happily listen to all of these books more than once. Slaughter's books never hang around, you never feel like they are slow-paced or slow-burners, she hooks you right from the start. The characters are enjoyable and every story is an easy, enjoyable read/listen. Thankfully the narrator was good and didn't have an irritating voice, good performance all round. Would thoroughly recommend, although this is probably my least favourite of Slaughter's books it still kicks the pants off of most other crime writers.

Really enjoyed the story, got lost sometimes but overall a good book!

The story was interesting, sometimes I would get a little lost because it jumps between characters a lot. The narrator took a bit of getting used to initially, can’t work out why though, I think there wasn’t much emotion in his voice so it was sometimes difficult to understand the situation.

Overall I really enjoyed the book 😊

Love it

Great story although I wish it was the full novel and not a shortened version. Would still recommend. Love all Karin Slaughter books. Great series

Gripping

I loved this book - whilst Will was in the background you knew his presence there would help John
