Publisher's Summary

A long-awaited Lord Peter Wimsey novel, telling the story of his first case - and his last....

Jill Paton Walsh triumphantly completes Dorothy L. Sayers last unfinished detective novel, featuring Lord Peter Wimsey and his new wife, Harriet Vane.

It is 1936, and Lord Peter Wimsey has returned from his honeymoon to set up home with his cherished new wife, the novelist Harriet Vane.

As they become part of fashionable London society, they encounter the glamorous socialite Rosamund Harwell and her wealthy impresario husband, Laurence. Unlike the Wimseys they are not in love - and all too soon, one of them is dead. A murder case that only Lord Peter Wimsey can solve.

    "swan song"

Positively the last appearance of the rich, intelligent and amusing prose which characterises the late, great Dorothy L Sayers. Faithfully if less skilfully completed by Jill Paton Walsh, one can still recognise and revel in the characters.
Ian Carmichael remains, with Edward Petherbridge, the best available reader of these novels and his loss is sadly felt. A sensitive, well paced performance of a delightful novel with touches of the ingenious.

    "Loved It!"

Great, the voice was just right! He brought the period to life, and did the characterisations well. Work needed on the French accent though.

    "Wonderful book"

I thoroughly enjoyed this book having at first been very doubtful of starting on it.as I had so loved the Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane original novels by Dorothy L Sayers However I shall now be purchasing the next novel in this series and that is surely the best compliment I can give!

    "Ok story"

As a fan of Peter wimsey I was keen to hear this. But the mystery element that I love was swamped by the personal overly sentimental detail of Peter and Harriet's life.

"A brilliant job by Jill Paton Walsh"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Thrones, Dominations?

I was really impressed by how Jill Paton Walsh managed to keep Dorothy L Sayers' style - in fact I think she also improved on it. I think any fan of the Lord Peter Wimsey / Harriet Vane books will really enjoy what has been done with this story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I could have listened to it in one go.

    Any additional comments?

I was dubious about whether I would like this, knowing Dorothy L Sayers hadn't finished it before she died. If any other Sayers fans aren't sure, I would say please try it.

    Story
"Good story. Just not sure whether to laugh or get cross at the rotten attempt at a French accent."

This book follows Lord Peter and, now, Lady Peter (ex Harriet Vane) after their Honeymoon and gives, along with the murder story, an idea of the continuation of their story.
It's a good book, not the best, but enjoyable. My only problem is with the narrator's rotten accents. At one point his French accent attempts sound like a cross between a Welsh accent and a dreadful Indian styled accent. It is an insult to both. Then I stopped listening to the story and ended up giggling at him. If you can't do an accent, don't even try. Otherwise, his voice is very pleasant to listen to, so I moved passed that and enjoyed the book.

Jill Paton Walsh has captured the style of Dorothy Sayers writing so well it is difficult to tell who has written the book style is dated but still a good read
