Summary

A mystery wrapped in a myth about the origins of humanity. A race to find an ancient pyramid hidden in plain sight. A secret so dangerous its guardians will kill to protect it. And an ancient covenant that might save the world, or destroy it completely.

In 1655, a group of explorers from the Emerald Star entered the Namibian Desert in search of an ancient relic rumored to be hidden in a secret temple. None of the crew ever returned - but stories of their mysterious demise continued to be told.

In the present-day Turkish subterranean city of Derinkuyu, a strange wooden placard is discovered floating in an old well. It’s covered in the script of a language long forgotten, but Sam Reilly has seen the text before. The words suggest an ancient race might still exist, and are in the process of building a new temple. The question is - is it the same temple where Dr. Billie Swan is being held prisoner?

A good listen over all.

Fast paced enough to be able to ignore the sometimes clunky grammar, and odd ending. Cracking good yarn, I am enjoying the series altogether.

The action and adventure is excellent!

I love the ongoing theme of the master builders and this book explores them a little more than we usually get. It's an excellent ongoing theme within all the Sam Reilly books. I can't wait for us to get to the point where we an be completely dedicated to them in some form of finale. But equally the Same Reilly books are such a great series that I don't want them to end.

I think it has an excellent level of pace mixed with twists and is basically a really clever action book

I don't want to give away any plot points so I'm trying to talk about it without talking about it so I don't spoil it.
Each book hooks me that bit more because we explore this great plethora of characters who all have depth and their own well defined characters. The author knows the importance of needing a lead character balanced with a great ensemble of well defined friends and enemies.

A really good story only adds to the appeal!
David Gilmore is quite simply an excellent narrator. From a voice that you can just listen to, to the ability to give life to each of the characters and to draw you into the story - you can't really ask for more!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Adventure, Action and Mystery.

Another thrilling outing for Sam Reilly and his specialist team. The novel spans hundreds if not thousands of years in time and moves between the coast and desert of Namibia to Turkey. Lots of threads converge to give a thrilling climax with action a plenty in-between. This is a very well written and narrated adventure giving the listener a great overall experience.
