Publisher's Summary

What is the difference between justice and revenge?

In this buzzworthy new thriller by New York Times best-selling author Lisa Unger, two wronged women on very different paths find themselves in the same dark place....

Claudia Bishop's perfect life fell apart when the aftermath of a brutal assault left her with a crumbling marriage, a newborn daughter, and a constant sense of anxiety about the world around her. Now, looking for a fresh start with a home restoration project and growing blog, Claudia takes on a crumbling old house - one that, unbeknownst to her, has an ugly history and may hide long-buried secrets.

For Zoey Drake the defining moment of her childhood was the horrific home invasion murder of her parents. Years later she has embraced the rage that fuels her. Training in the martial arts has made her strong and ready to face the demons from the past - and within.

Strangers to each other, and walking very different paths in the wake of trauma, these two women are on a collision course - because Zoey's past nightmare and Claudia's dreams for her future take place in the very same house. As Zoey seeks justice and Claudia seeks peace, both will confront the monsters at the door that are the most frightening of all.

"Incredible, May be her best yet"

I finished listening to this book at 3:30 a.m. this morning. Then laid awake for at least an hour thinking it through.

By history, I have read everything starting with the Lydia Strong books, written as Lisa Miscione. So I'm a big fan, but I think this may be the best yet.

Plus kudos for the narrator who had a tough job to do with three distinct female leads. Yet the voices of a teen, a late twenties, and an early forties woman were distinct and age appropriate.

Outstanding and highly recommended but be prepared to stay up late.

    "I LOVED THIS BOOK!"

This story was engaging and suspenseful and its complexity kept me rapt until the very last page. The characters were richly drawn and the narrator was excellent.

"Fairly good, maybe better for Young Adults"

This book has some good points, the characters are distinct and well built. There are a couple of story lines that converge and it does get a little confusing if not far fetched. The teenage girl vigilante was particularly hard to swallow.
Its entertaining but goes on a little too long with too many wrap ups but I guess that happens when you have a few different story lines. Not sure if it was meant as a YA book but book but it does read like one.

    "Great Read"

At first there were so many characters and so much time line jumping that I almost stopped listening to the book. It was so disturbing to have to listen to a chapter then listen a second time to figure out which character and what time period was being represented. But it was so worth it when everything comes together. You have to go through the layers to understand the complexity of all the characters.

    "Interesting story"

This was a great read. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it took me a little bit to differentiate the 2 women characters towards the beginning of the book. The narrative changed from each of their lives but once it became clear who perspective it was from it was fine. A few chapters in I caught on. I really enjoyed the story and the characters were very likable. I would definitely recommend this book and will be looking out for the next in this series as it's left off as a possible continuation to future books. I will definitely also read more by this author in the future as well.

    "LOVE ZOE"

The characters in the ZOE line of the story saved me from utter frustration and yielded an end result of really liking this book. It may well be that other readers have the exact opposite opinion. I think perhaps my feeling reflects personal life experiences more than the writer's skills. Regardless, I thought tge author gave an insightful voice to complexities within the concepts of Right vs Wrong in today's woelf. Claudia and Raven, even her husband frustrated me greatly- though the Claudia character only rose to that level in the final conflict scenes. If there is a sequel, I hope it involves ZOE and her sense of justice!

    "excellent narration; sol-so story"

unnecessarily convoluted plot with little character development; there really wasn't a central character and it seemed like the story was just tacked together with no real thinking out about how to bring all the disparate bits together. I was underwhelmed. The main reason I finished it was because the narrator did such a good job.

"My first Unger book -- I'm hooked!"

First of all the style of this book is so unusual and fresh... definitely unlike any I've read before. It is complex, the characters are fully fluffed out and the way in which the author weaves them catches you a bit off guard in spots. I love how she weaves every sentence. She certainly doesn't waste any vocabulary. The narrator is superb; her range from male to female characters is impressive.
Lastly I adore how 's. Unger highlights the strength of women, regardless of age, life experience or size. I could barely put it down.
