Distracted by the Narration.
Would you try another book written by Karen Hamilton or narrated by Anna Friel?

Read by Anna Friel, probably not.

I think this was a good story, but Anna’s constant swallowing was extremely distracting. She left long gaps in between words, for no apparent reason. I was expecting better, but I just couldn’t cope with hearing her frequent swallowing.

Anna Friel truly captures you and draws you into this book.
Already a massive fan of Anna ..
But this book was amazing and captivating.
I literally would listen every time in the car -
Even go the longer way home so I could listen more.
Fantastic twists and turns.
You won’t regret this book.
Anna please please do more narrating.

Brilliant book
Story was excellent. Kept my interest all the way through. Could see this being made into a film. BUT detested Anna friels narration sounded like she was eating and swallowing all the way through. If the story had not been so enthralling I would have given up

What made the experience of listening to The Perfect Girlfriend the most enjoyable?

Have you listened to any of Anna Friel’s other performances? How does this one compare?
She's a bit like Marmite, like or loathe. Personally, I got used to the pauses, lip-smacking etc, it went well with the character.

Great story, dreadful narration
This is a cracker of a first novel - It's a mixture of psychological thriller and domestic noir with the ultimate bunny boiler of a main character thrown in! However....like so many other reviewers before me I found the narration to be truly awful. The narrator puts long pauses where they shouldn't be (constantly!) and the intonation is all wrong. Add to this constant swallowing and sighing and you end up with an uncomfortable listen. I'd suggest reading this one!

This was fun
Easy listening, entertaining, moves at a cracking pace: yes, it's a bit far-fetched, but I found myself quite willing to suspend disbelief as I was so engaged. I think you'd like this one.

Narration a bit odd. Good bunny boiler thriller
I like Anna Friel, but the narration was a bit odd. Not punctuating sentences and odd pauses. It didn’t help the flow.
