Summary

Hermes Diaktoros visits a remote island which is home to an ancient icon famed for its miraculous powers. But something about the Virgin troubles him, and Hermes calls on an old friend to confirm his suspicions that the icon is a fake. Ready to hand the matter over to the authorities, Hermes intends to leave - until the island’s icon painter is found dead at sea.

Did he die of natural causes or by a wrathful hand? What secret is a dishonest gypsy keeping? And what haunts the ancient catacombs beneath the bishop’s house?

An excellent series continues

Unfortunately I am now completely hooked on the greek detective series and am listening to them at a rate which exceeds my monthly credits! I am just downloading the next in the series. The Lady of Sorrows certainly lived up to my expectations - another imaginative story told at a leisurely pace with justice being served in its various ways. I do hope we have not got the beginnings of a love story for our fat man however - sadly the emergence of a love interest always seems to have a detrimental effect on plots!!!

How many times must they say ‘the fat man’?

I couldn’t listen to this book, no matter how good the plot may be. I swear the phrase ‘the fat man’ is repeated at least once every thirty seconds. It got to the stage I was going to throw my phone at the wall if I heard it again…

Captures a sense of time and place

I adore this series as it well describes the reality of beautiful places and times that are slipping away.
Our imagination and curiosity are enlivened by the discreet main chatacter who, with the hint of a higher power, challenges injustice in his own way.

Mr Barrett's performance wonderful as always.

The extended delays between chapters was irksome.

Greek Islands. Thriller. Brilliant Narrator.

Another in this brilliant series about a Greek detective and the lives of the Greek islanders and their history. Submerges you instantly into their way of life - no chick lit Greek islands here but the real thing. Sean Barrett has gives a wonderful narration for these books - each character given their own voice and the endings are always a surprise. Cannot wait for the next one.
