Publisher's Summary

How do you confront your husband when you don't want to know the truth?

Twenty years ago Dennis Danson was arrested and imprisoned for the brutal murder of a young girl in Florida's Red River County. Now he's the subject of a true-crime documentary that's whipping up a frenzy online to uncover the truth and free a man who has been wrongly convicted.

A thousand miles away in England, Samantha is obsessed with Dennis' case. She exchanges letters with him and is quickly won over by his apparent charm and kindness to her. Soon she has left her old life behind to marry him and campaign for his release.

But when the campaign is successful and Dennis is freed, Sam begins to discover new details that suggest he may not be quite so innocent after all....

    "Fantastic Original Book"

I really enjoyed this book it was totally original. The premise of the story was intriguing, what makes an ordinary British woman fall in love with an American murderer on death row? The way in which this question was dealt with had me gripped from page one and I could barely stop until it was finished. The narration was really good and Christina really conveyed Samantha. The ending was excellent tense and nerve shattering with a final twist. My only criticism would be that I would have liked the portrait of Samantha to have been drawn out a bit more. The press described her in a certain way, but this was never confirmed by Amy Lloyd in her narrative and I felt that I really wanted to know what she actually looked like and if this had any bearing on her actions. Overall a brilliant book.

    "Twisted!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Well even a seasoned thriller reader such as I was thrown by the turn of events in the final pages and that’s quite a thing - or THANG as they’d say in Red River County, scene of the events in this thriller. I’d recommend this audiobook to anyone - as long as they’re not in a hurry to switch off and get some shut eye.

What did you like best about this story?

The careful attention to detail. The atmosphere. The clever one liners. The Jerry Springer / Louis Theroux type documentary undertones. The non physical cat fight between the little schoolma’am from the U.K. and the alligator thrashing, Deep South trailer trashing ex-girlfriend of our hero.

What does Christina Cole and Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

TBH the writing is EVERYTHING so although the narration is great, the images, voices and atmosphere conjured up in my mind from first reading the hardback book were as good as I’ve ever experienced.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Nobody warned Samantha to be careful what she wished for...

    Any additional comments?

This was the audiobook of the author’s first published work... can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

    "Implodes With The Central Character"

An interesting idea for sure but never really quite executes against it. When you base a book around a very weak central character you are always taking a risk. Readers, at least those like myself, need to be able to identify with them in some way but Sam just fell flat in almost every way and I simply couldn't identify with her. I only made it halfway through but by then I just couldn't feel anything about her. She was weak in a two dimensional way which brought the whole thing crashing down.

Christina Cole and Lorelei King did a decent job of the narration and the book is well-structured for two narrators but even that doesn't lift this beyond the mundane.

    "Compelling thriller"

A well-paced thriller, with interesting characters and an involving story. I liked the style of including excerpts from a 'true' crime novel, it was a nice original touch. All the clichéd compliments apply to The Innocent Wife; I really couldn't put it down. I enjoyed Christina Cole's narration and her Lindsey voice was exactly as I imagined when reading; I spent more time listening than reading, as a result of this . However, my husband complained, when he overheard a minute, that the narrator had a 'boring voice', but he doesn't really get the concept of unabridged audiobooks and alternating reading/listening!

Really enjoyed this slightly disappointing ending felt like it built and built but then it was all too quick at the end. Maybe I just didn’t want it to end.
    Loved it though x

    "gripping but cold"

a good story but hard to connect with the characters, so didn't feel that invested in what happened to anyone. some interesting themes around celebrity, social media and politics intriduced but not adequately explored. still an enjoyable listen though.

"Unlikeable main character but a good story overall"

The overall story is interesting to listen to, however I found the main character to be an extremely unlikeable woman. The ending left me a little deflated as I feel like more could have been done to make this book less predictable.
