Summary

There are two sides to every secret.

When her beloved father dies, Josie is devastated to uncover a secret life he has led with another family: another house, another woman, and a half sister, Valentina.

Born in the same week, in the same hospital, they look so physically alike they could be mistaken for twins. But the similarities end there....

Josie is sweet and reserved, a counsellor with the perfect boyfriend and the perfect life. Valentina is damaged and reckless, and she always gets what she wants.

But what she wants is Josie's life, and she'll stop at nothing until she has it.

A tense, pause-resisting story that will keep you listening into the night. Perfect for fans of Louise Jensen, Claire Douglas, and Sue Fortin.

A reasonable read

I liked this book but I didn't love it. Somewhat predictable and over dramatic which made it hard work at times but worth persivering with for the final twist.

Seemed to have promise in the beginning...

But left me feeling underwhelmed and unfulfilled. Having just listened to Jess Ryder's The Ex-Wife, which I found utterly brilliant, I was eager to listen to The Good Sister. Unfortunately I didn't find this story nearly as interesting, the characters felt underdeveloped and a little dull. I found some reactions to events to be peculiar to the point it broke immersion in the tale for me and I didn't feel as though all the loose ends were satisfactorily wrapped up in the end. I think this book had a lot of potential that didn't quite work out for one reason or another. That being said, there were some wonderfully written parts and Jess Ryder seems to be really very adept at describing appearances and environments. The brief segments about the Vikings were compelling and thoughtfully used throughout.

Annette Chown's performance was great, conveying both vulnerability and strength when needed. I'm unaware as to Chown's age, but I felt she perfectly performed the roles of Josie and Valentina, sounding as you'd expect women their age to (I've not always found this to be the case with all audio book performances.) More than having just read the story, Chown acted it out beautifully, with care and attention.

Twists and turns, fabulous read

I really loved this story, captures the imagination of how you would feel if you found out things weren't as you always knew in your family. Totally recommend this as a great read.

Twisty and deep

An excellent listen- felt very confused at times and thought I had missed something. However all is revealed at the end. Makes this a gripping tale very hard to stop listening to. Ended up listening into the night.
