In this intense story, Audible listeners are hooked - does fate lead Rachel to see this? Or have the people in the houses been watching Rachel?

Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Winner of the 2016 Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year.

Includes an exclusive extract from Paula Hawkins' scorching new thriller A Slow Fire Burning, read by Rosamund Pike.

Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough.

Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar.

Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train....

Runs Like An Express

What did you like most about The Girl on the Train?

The female characters are utterly engaging; you care about so very much. The male characters with one exception are brutes but three dimensional brutes, ordinary men on the surface, but in a domestic situation, tyrants.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rachel, lost, foolish yet lovable and human. You would be pleased to have her as a friend.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The three female protagonists are voiced by three different women, all very different in tone reflecting the various aspects of their individual characters.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is an emotional roller coaster; full of suspense, full of pain. It made me wince rather than cry.

Any additional comments?

By far and away the best thriller I have listened to for years.

An intriguing idea and an interesting plot.

This started off in a normal way. Girl on a train, watching the world go by. The train always halts at the same signal, outside the same house and she finds herself watching the owners. She feels like she knows them and invents a life for them; then the wife goes missing and she funds herself drawn into their lives. Ironically, she knows the area and the street, as it is where she used to live with her ex-husband!
Various twists and turns and complications in the plot leave you hooked.
Told in the words of the three key women, Rachel, Anna (her ex's new wife) and Megan, the missing woman, it is beautifully narrated.
Recommended! Enjoy!

The Girl on the Train

Every day Rachel, an alcoholic gets the train into London and every day she looks out at the houses imagining the lives of one particular couple, Scott and Megan. She pictures their perfect lives together but then one day she sees Megan with another man and decides to confront her. Walking up the next day, her pillow is covered in blood from a cut on her head, she doesn't remember anything and Megan is missing…

I struggled a lot with this one. I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting because they are all terrible people. I hung on till the end just so see if I was right about what happened to Megan (I was fyi). I listened to the audiobook which, for me, was not great. It was narrated by three different people and one in particular was like listening to Siri read the book.

Couldn't switch off...

Compelling listen, well-narrated.

A jilted and obsessed alcoholic ex-wife weaves herself into the view from her window on the train, and then has to deal with the consequences.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good Narrators

The three narrators did a good job with the story which was bland. Different perspectives on each chapter kept it interesting.

Gripping

The different versions are difficult to compare initially but they crescendo into a gripping drama. I enjoyed the book.
