Publisher's Summary

An old hermit has been killed in Utah's wildlands, and Sheriff Bud Shumway knows it's murder, even though some say it was a cougar kill. Others think it was done by a Bigfoot who has roamed the area for years, killing cattle and leaving people so traumatized that they never want to go into the wilderness again. But Sheriff Shumway can't afford to believe in Bigfoot, given the huge area he's responsible for, most of it wildlands.

Set at the Ghost Rock Cafe, high on the wild and mysterious San Rafael Swell, this mystery will have you laughing, scared to death, and wondering if Bigfoot might really exist. In any case, you'll find out who really killed the hermit of Swasey's Cabin, and it may not be who you think.

If you like mysteries, Bigfoot, and the wilderness, this book has it all - trains, movie producers, geology students, ranchers, floods, watermelon farmers, missing cattle who really aren't missing, ravens, weener dogs, Indian pots, dynamite truck drivers, stretch Hummers...the list is endless and makes for a wild and sometimes terrifying tale, but one that's a real pause-resister, tons of fun, and a great listen.

    "Fun and crazy mystery!"
What made the experience of listening to The Ghost Rock Cafe the most enjoyable?

Lots of action and a mellow narrator.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Lots of twists and turns. The ending was a big surprise.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Bud talks to the Bigfoot, thinking it's a guy in a costume, telling it he's going to arrest it. Pretty scary, yet funny.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Murder and Bigfoot in the Badlands - a mellow sheriff and his bumbling deputy keep you in suspense or laughing the whole time.

    Any additional comments?

No gore or anything offensive, the writer uses good storytelling to grab you. Really enjoyed it.

    "Poor narration mars good story"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the story why doing my daily walks, but the lack of pauses when the story moved from one scene to another lost me sometimes and I had to back up and re-listen to pick up the change.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ghost Rock Cafe?

The sheriff quitting and turning the job over to a incompetent deputy that seemed careless and dangerous to me.

Would you be willing to try another one of E. Roy Worley’s performances?

No some fundamentals of narration were lacking and having lived in Green River, UT for a few months I don't know where the terrible accent came from.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

For sure if the filmed in Utah I love that country.

    Any additional comments?

I am a resident of Utah and familiar with the area and think the the book would have been well served with a few paragraphs spent on describing the geology and archaeology of the area.

    "Fun and Laid Back Mystery"

This is the first book in a series, and the first I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator's warm, laid-back style perfectly suits the story and the character of Sheriff Bud. A chewed on corpse, a missing boot, a vandalized café, a rock collection, missing paintings--and Bigfoot. Can't beat that.

    "I love Bud Shumway stories"
Where does The Ghost Rock Cafe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the best of the bunch, but they are all wonderful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bud Shumway because he is so easy going and yet manages to solve crimes. He isn't the least bit arrogant and he shows compassion toward everyone he comes across.

Have you listened to any of E. Roy Worley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Yes, other Chinle Miller books.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is just a very warn and welcoming type of story. I did laugh.

    Any additional comments?

I hope the Shumway series keeps on.<br/>I am a loyal fan of Chinle Miller.

Would you listen to The Ghost Rock Cafe again? Why?

I would and did listen to it a second time. You tend to get engrossed in the book and miss some of the subtle items, and humor.

What did you like best about this story?

It is as if Tony Hillerman wrote "Murder She Wrote", and set it in the southwest.

What does E. Roy Worley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very much so, his resonate voice and accent fit the story perfectly.

"Nice Little Southwest Cop Detective Work"

Story follows a Utah police officer as he deals with the citizenry sprinkled across the reservations and empty reserves of Utah, solving peculiar events as he goes along. Fast read but the characters are comfortable and the stories really do move along on their own.
