Audible Editor Reviews

"Terrifically fun and explosively propulsive." (Gregg Hurwitz, author of Orphan X)

Publisher's Summary

Author of the BBC Radio 2 Book Club best seller Better Off Dead

From best-selling author Tom Wood comes a unique and gasp-inducing Victor thriller that turns all your expectations on their head....

Agent Antonio Alvarez has been tracking a dangerous murderer for years, a nameless hitman responsible for numerous homicides. The Agency deflected him away from his search, but he didn't give up, piecing together clues and hearsay. Now a promotion has allowed him to pursue this man with a handpicked team and bring him to justice. Only problem is the murderer has vanished.

Thousands of miles away, the assassin known as Victor has stopped working - recently he began to care; he made mistakes. Now he has a choice: whether to give up the life or return to being a coldhearted weapon. But there's another killer who needs his help - and she might be harder to refuse...all while the good guys are closing in on him.

"Couldn't get past the terrible " Oirish " accent!"

Gutted, I love Tom Woods books but the horrific accent of the ( normally great!) narrator just killed it for me! Only got four chapters in before I had to bin the book! :(

    "Amazing series"

Every book as good as last if dare I say more gripping.
I would like to give it 5 stars...
    But I'm maybe too stingy.

Sorry but I thought it wasn't up to Tom's usual standard. It felt a bit rushed in my opinion.

    "Another great Victor story"

A fresh story that ties together a lot of loose ends and brings the previous 3 books together.

    "A sharper focus needed"

Really love the 'Victor' stories but this one not only started very slow but seemed to drift quite a lot.

Shame it had to be this way, but overall loyalty to the 'Victor' character means happy to wait for the next installment.

"Victor Is Back With An Irish Accent !"

I have waited for ages for this. When I noticed that the narrator wasn't Rob Shapiro, I realised I had been listening to the US only versions of these books .

So, it was with a heavy and impatient heart that I bought and downloaded the UK edition .
I should have waited . I lost count of how many times I groaned at the narrators inability to mimic an American accent and instead, sounding quasi Welsh/Scandinavian ( seriously, listen to it if you don't believe me) or something worse .

The storyline would have been gripping I think but insteadI got really distracted by the increasingly lumpen and vaudevillian character accents .

So please, avoid this version and wait until August when Rob Shapiro's version is released . He embodies Victor and really electrifies the prose .

    Anyone else simply isn't Victor.
