Disappointing

What would have made The Door Between better?

I am a fan of Ellery Queen but this book was disappointing. The relationship between Ellery and his father lacked the customary warmth and respect. The father was portrayed as bumbling and crude, and Ellery duplicitous and disdainful. The character of Terry Rink was unbelievable and, again, crude, as well as being superfluous. The story would have held together perfectly well without him. And the final twist was completely unnecessary and showed Ellery being manipulative and cruel. We were not even told what the outcome was, and the motivation for the main death was sufficient before this final turn of the screw.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ellery Queen again?

Yes

Did Mark Peckham do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Mark Peckham is a very good narrator.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Door Between?

Cut the Terry Rink character, and cut the final chapter.
