Summary
The year is 1911. Chief Investigator Isaac Bell of the Van Dorn Detective Agency has had many extraordinary cases before. But none quite like this.
Hired to find a young woman named Anna Pape who ran away from home to become an actress, Bell gets a shock when her murdered body turns up instead.
Vowing to bring the killer to justice, he begins a manhunt which leads him into increasingly more alarming territory. Anna Pape was not alone in her fate - petite young blond women like Anna are being murdered in cities across America.
And the pattern goes beyond the physical resemblance of the victims - there are disturbing familiarities about the killings themselves that send a chill through even a man as experienced with evil as Bell. If he is right about his fears, then he is on the trail of one of the greatest monsters of his time.

A very good Clive Cussler

Best Bell adventure yet!
The Cutthroat is right up there with The Wrecker as the best of the Bell series. After a couple of what I considered weaker stories in the last books, Cussler really found form again here.
Taking place across North America, The Cutthroat is a fantastic murder/mystery based around the theatre/film industry - involving one of the UK's most notorious serial killers!
The story is standalone, so you don't necessarily have to read the previous books in order to enjoy this, however I do find that knowledge of previous adventures/characters etc does help.
Really, I can't recommend The Cutthroat enough. Cussler and Bell back to their best for sure.

Top class book
Excellent narration of a to class book. I have read almost all of Clive Cussler's books and this is no exception. The narrator dog the book justice

Another show stopping performance by the incredibly talented Scott Brick. Brick brings these incredible stories to life. I'm so grateful to him and Cussler for keeping me entertained.

Rip roaring action
I love the Clive Cussler books and have been reading them since the NUMA originals. The Van Dorn agency books haven't disappointed and neither did this audio version. A few dodgy pronunciations here and there are the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars for performance, oh and the slightly off putting tendency to do an accent for some characters and not others..

Entertaining
The Issac Bell series are some of my favourite written light entertainment novels. I'm not so sure about the audible versions which I think is due to a narrative style which isn't best suited to my British ear but that's just one of these things.

Cutthroat - cut out of my library
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Generally very well read by Scott Brick, who is always a pleasure to listen to. Just a shame that the authors have either got bored with the Isaac Bell series, or completely let him down. The previous 9 books in the series are some of my favourite reads, with well thought out plot lines, and historical descriptions that really bring the characters and era to life. Not so "The Cutthroat". Isaacs boss, as a businessman, would never have allowed the resources to be used, with no client, to investigate what is clearly a police matter. Descriptions of the characters mode of travel, always a high point for me, were sadly missing, also, as was any real depth to all the characters. In the end, for the first time ever with a Cussler book, I gave up on it about half way through.
Has The Cutthroat put you off other books in this genre?
This is not to say that The Cutthrat has put me off other books in this genre, or indeed series, but I do hope that the next one is back on form.

Not the readers fault, but no character was well written enough in this book to be enjoyable.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The only redeeming quality of this book will be to the authors and publishers bank balances. Come on guys, get back to the quality of the earlier books in this series, please.
