Summary

My name is Simon. I'm 10 years old. I'm a serial killer.

Robert Stern, a successful defence lawyer, doesn't know what lies in store for him when he agrees to meet a new client in a derelict estate on the outskirts of Berlin. To his astonishment, the defendant is a 10-year-old boy - Simon, a fragile child with a chronic illness who insists that he was a murderer in a former life.

Stern's surprise quickly turns to horror as he searches the cellar Simon has directed him to and discovers the skeletal remains of a man, the skull split with an axe - just as Simon told him he would. But this is only the beginning, as Simon tells Stern where to find even more victims whose bodies have lain undisturbed for years. Suddenly the present feels murderously dangerous as well....

The Child is a darkly twisting thriller that will make your heart pound with adrenaline.

Quite a slow book.

Quite a slow book with a very weird story line, but it did keep you thinking all the way through.

Reader Beware

Do not select this book purely from the synopsis. It is full of very dark and challenging material including abuse. If you're ok with and enjoy books like this it is surely excellent.... But really I got through it to reach the "happy" ending.

It had its moments...

The plot was intriguing to begin with and indeed it had periods of tension and suspense. I found that by the middle it was becoming silly. Characters lacked depth and credibility, all were familiar stereotypes. The frequency of cliches is similarly irritating but this may be a consequence of translation.
Robert Glenister's narration is first rate, one of the reasons I bought the book.

Very exciting!

From one of my favourite authors comes a super exciting book, you never know where it will go next. I couldn't have guessed the twist at the end, and believe me I always try. Action packed and lots going on.

Great twisted novel

Narration brilliant, Robert Glenister has a great sounding voice which lent itself to this dark subject novel. I usually listen to audible books on my car journeys and found myself not wanting to get to my destination yet! a well executed story, worth the listen.
