Summary

Scotland Yard Superintendent Perry Trethowan is enjoying a vacation evening at a cosy Yorkshire pub when an old woman shows him an original, unpublished Bronte manuscript. Trethowan agrees to engage in a little literary detective work, but he doesn’t realise that for a criminal the manuscript is motive for theft, torture - and murder.

Sorry, awful.

Narration good, story awful with no mystery to crime story, author's knowledge woeful :-( waste of time and money I really fail to understand the great reviews.

Delightful

Good mystery. The detective and his wife are wonder characters. It was a clever plot. Very enjoyable

very disappointed

Not one of Barnard's best. The fight scene near the end was ridiculous and boring.
