Summary

White light. Heat. A drawn-out moment of complete silence. And then the screaming starts.

An Underground carriage in London is destroyed by a suicide bomber. The injured and the dead litter the platform. But as a crowd forms at street level, Michael Pope knows that this is only the beginning.

Pope, head of top-secret Group 15, is tasked with finding the perpetrators of this atrocity and bringing them to justice, any way he can. He knows that the answers to many of his questions will lie at the end of the money trail, but he also knows that whoever funded and organized the attack will kill again for their freedom.

This is an operation that requires a very special kind of agent. Pope needs someone who exists outside of normality. Someone who floats above it, treading softly through a fractured life.

He needs the Angel.

starts well......

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really, the book ends so suddenly that I thought my MP3 had skipped a part, its not fair to leave a reader with all stories unfinished in the middle its as if the writer did not know how to go further. (if there is a second part which I can not find an answer too, I would recommend getting the two together and not get this one until then!)

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Angel?

the sudden end made me furious!!

What does Napoleon Ryan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The characters are individual and would make it easier I suppose.

Did The Angel inspire you to do anything?

Yes get angry about the loose ends there should be a warning that the book ends so sudden with nothing finished in the story line!

Any additional comments?

If this was my first book of this writer I would wonder if all his books would end like this, its well written entertaining end then nothing.......... did the writer run out of ideas?? please tell us before hand there is (i think there must be ) a second part to it at least then I would wait until the second part is out and have one finished book. Very disappointing, it could have been a 5 star all the way had the book not ended the way it has!!! waste of time for just the one "half"book.

Wrong voice for the charactors.

Really disappointed with delivery of voices, unbelievable voices e.g. Posh guy with irritating accent laying down an tone and voice which is really hard to relate to. Then a 40something women trying to talk like a 15 yr old. The heroine, an ex SAS who sounds posher than Boris Johnson straight from Eton. I love Mark Dawson stories normally and can live with being short changed in the storyline but it's a lot harder to swallow when delivered by someone advertising Jaguar cars. Sorry Mark, will try something else until you check who reads your stories.

Great story.... but awful narration

Now I love Mark Dawson's stuff. I think it's taut, energetic and a great, great read. There is no lingering passages of description, it's straight to the action and the story and I love it all. This book is no different.. however, I'm sorry to say that the narration on this audio book is horrible. I mean really really horrible. Nothing against the narrator, but he is so completely unsuitable for this type of book. His clipped, 'Queens English' accent is totally out of place and it's sounds jarrring all the way through. The woman who interjects as the female parts is way too breathy and seductive for the characters and it's honestly the narration totally ruined a fantastic novel. It was called 'brilliance Audio' by Audible, but I can't find anything brilliant about it. It pains me that the next book in the series is narrated by the same people and I am going to have to suffer it for another 8 hours... just to find out what happens. The book really does end abruptly and it's clear it's Act 2 in a series of 3, but don't read this is you haven't read any Beatrix Rose novels or the first one in the series. Great writing... appalling narration.. I feel bad saying that, but it is true.

Great book but

I personally hated the extra voices, the woman's voice was terrible in some of it but I had to listen to find out about Isabella

Left hanging - very frustrating

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Extremely frustrating and unsatisfactory!

Any additional comments?

I was enjoying the book until the abrupt and totally unsatisfactory end. The Angel is only half a book with no sign of the follow up at this time. I would be slow to invest any more time in this author. Shame because it has great potential.

No ending so wait until follow up is available if you like this author

Thriller that had no satisfactory ending. Obviously there should be another book or maybe even more to complete the story, but no indication of this is given until it ends, just leaving you frustrated that you have to wait for the next instalment. I probably won't bother with that in case that one ends similarly.

The successor I was waiting for

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, 100%. Gripping, thrilling, and unputdownable, this is a worthy successor to the Beatrix rose series. The cliffhanger at the end is amazing.

What did you like best about this story?

The action is fast and explosive, the book never becoming slow or dull; and the characters have a real sense of personality.

Have you listened to any of Napoleon Ryan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't. The narration was great, though the voices for the female characters were a little annoying at first.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. As with all of Mark Dawson's books, I couldn't put it down. Rarely do I finish a book so quickly

Any additional comments?

Just buy it. You'll be glad you did.

Ends a bit soon leaves too much unanswered.

enjoyed the vivid and well paced story thays well read. for me it leaves too much unresolved and feels like a too obvious "you'll have to buy the next one to find out more ploy" not sure I will.

I wish the excellent story resolved

I loved the story and Isabella but need to control my impatience to resolve the story.
