Summary

Stephanie Plum is back in an all-new adventure from number-one best-selling author Janet Evanovich.

Stephanie Plum has her sights set on catching a notorious mob boss. If she doesn't take him down, he may take her out. New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum knows better than to mess with family. But when powerful mobster Salvatore "Uncle Sunny" Sunucchi goes on the lam in Trenton, it's up to Stephanie to find him.

Uncle Sunny is charged with murder for running over a guy (twice), and nobody wants to turn him in - not his poker buddies, not his bimbo girlfriend, not his two right-hand men, Shorty and Moe. Even Trenton's hottest cop, Joe Morelli, has skin in the game, because - just Stephanie's luck - the godfather is his actual godfather. And while Morelli understands that the law is the law, his old-world grandmother, Bella, is doing everything she can to throw Stephanie off the trail.

It's not just Uncle Sunny giving Stephanie the run-around. Security specialist Ranger needs her help to solve the bizarre death of a top client's mother, a woman who happened to play bingo with Stephanie's Grandma Mazur. Before Stephanie knows it, she's working side by side with Ranger and Grandma at the senior centre, trying to catch a killer on the loose - and the bingo balls are not rolling in their favour.

With bullet holes in her car, henchmen on her tail, and a giraffe named Kevin running wild in the streets of Trenton, Stephanie will have to up her game for the ultimate takedown.

Tear bringing laughter

Where does Takedown Twenty rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

High for it's genre. I prefer the earlier Stephanie Plumb stories but Lorelei King offers a perfect reading and Grandma and Ranger never fail to amuse, The introduction of a random giraffe on the streets of the Burg is a stroke of genius and Stephanie and Granma almost buried in cement was a masterstroke of plotting. Not thrillers that have you on the edge of your seat with suspense but falling off your seat with raucous laughtger. Brilliant

What other book might you compare Takedown Twenty to, and why?

Janet Evanovich is a unique talent sso I can only really compare them with her other books.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

Perfect voice for this novel with a real difference in characterisation. Grandma Bella for example is wonderfully gothic in her curses and she does menace well.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed until I cried.

Love Janet Evanovich

I love these books. Stephanie Plum is so funny, you feel like you really know the everyone. "Start with One is for Money" as different crimes but the story goes on from book to book.

Slightly disappointing

I love these books and save them for 'difficult' times. The narration is sublime and some of the descriptions are award winning. But I disappointed that the author seemed to have the hero in a very 'klutzy' period - she could little right and I started feeling impatient with her. So, fun and a great listen, but not the best plot.

Hysterical

The narrator is excellent, I particularly like the way she portrays Lula. I laughed out loud all the way to work. Please do the whole series of Stephanie Plum unabridged.

Can't get enough of Stephanie Plum

Even if some things are starting to get repetitive, the fun tone and amazing characters always bring me back to this series, as it's my comfort read/listen. Kuddos to Lorelei King for a perfect narration.

Same old same old

Any additional comments?

Exactly the same as the other 19 books in the series. It is time Janet Evanovitch moved the story on a bit. I do not need to hear about another failed take down, Lula having a go at someone calling her fat, Stephanie getting hot and bothered over Morelli and Ranger. Bored now :-(

Exit Giraffe, stage left

Would you try another book written by Janet Evanovich or narrated by Lorelei King?

Maybe, I have read most the early ones and this one just didn't feel right. This was the first one I had listened rather than read but I felt Lorelei had the characters just right. So I might try one of the earlier ones.

What was most disappointing about Janet Evanovich’s story?

A very weak plot line - OK, plots are not essential to an Evanovich story but there was hardly any interaction with Ranger and Morelli and even Grandma didn't make me laugh out loud. There were some funny bits - the handbag scene and Bella's entrance to the Deli - but somehow finding Grandma caught up in the basement, filling up with concrete - no, it wasn't quite up to the usual standard. I didn't find it a fun 'read'.

Would you be willing to try another one of Lorelei King’s performances?

Yes, the characterisation was very good.

What character would you cut from Takedown Twenty?

Kevin? Why have him in, in the first place?

Any additional comments?

Stephanie and the other lead characters have not changed in any of the books I have read, which is good - you know what you are getting - and these are not intellectual reads, just a good fun romp. That's what let this book down, no fun romp.
