Summary

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high-technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight. Lawless bands of killers roam the countryside, leaving devastation in their wake and now that the government is gone, the Constitution is at stake. Who will carry on?

In this chaotic and dangerous environment, a few families and individuals, bound together by their faith, skills, and foresight, must struggle not only to survive day by day but defend themselves against a new and vicious predator - their fellow man.

Survivors is a shockingly realistic and lightening fast thriller about the coming implosion of America as we know it. Renowned survivalist expert James Wesley, Rawles has packed this story with the cold hard facts about how to stay alive in the face of mass riots, starvation, and anarchy. His expertise lends unforgettable, authentic detail to this season's most chilling novel. Listeners will not only be entralled, they will learn invaluable lessons on how to survive the coming collapse.

Room for improvement

Being a fan of the genre I am supposed to like this book but as much as I’d like I can’t give it a great review. There is too much weapons detail in this book which does become tedious as does its put your trust in the Lord message. I have no problem with this as it’s refreshing to hear something other than liberal white male bashing feminist claptrap that had my eyes rolling after enduring the girl with dragon tattoo books. This though is too nice and Christian, having all the lead good characters constantly putting their faith in the Lord to assist them started to test mine. There are multiple storylines in this book from a variety of different viewpoints and situations which I liked and as it’s written by a survival expert it had such potential to instruct and entertain but it does neither very well. It does have useful information but it’s mainly overshadowed by an excessive focus on guns and bullion for survival.
Some of the storylines were quite good and it has not bored me like other notable best sellers but I must admit I was very disappointed by the end, there are positively fistfuls of loose strings, it felt like half the book was missing. Rawles should have perhaps focused on fewer characters and given a more detailed account of their survival. I would have given the book an automatic 4 stars if no mention of sexual violence was used either but alas the author couldn’t help himself, absolutely no bad language in the whole book and sickly moral but references to rape had to be included even though brief and non descript, I can’t remember the last book I heard without any.
Rawles is not a bad fiction writer and is clearly very successful at his survival blog but he has failed to join the two together here, hopefully audible will include his first book Patriots which I hear is better. I think this book is average but I suspect if I was not a fan of the genre I'd probably hate it. It might though show people the fragility of our system and make them think.

Gun obsessed

There are only 2 reasons I'd bother to write a review. Either a book is excellent or sadly as in this case utter rubbish. I am not a religious person, but for the sake of a narrative, I'm prepared to cut some slack for the story. The main objection in this story is Bible and guns. The obsession with weapons is raised to the level of porn. Save your credit and buy a different book. Also listen out for the author’s name the next time there is another Waco!
