Summary
The La Fleur restaurant has a slew of unusual phenomena. Bonnet-clad apparitions pass through walls, blood leaks from ceilings and rats besiege the dining room. Experts from the Great Essex Witch Museum are called in to quell these strange sights. But before Rosie Strange and Sam Stone can do their thing, events turn darker.
For La Fleur's chef has been strung up and slaughtered like a pig. More oddly, the only witness, the owner's daughter Mary, swears blind a ghost did it. Rosie and Sam must find out what's happening before Mary takes the fall. But intuitions and tip-offs lead them stumbling into the dark waters of the past, exposing secrets of a wider conspiracy as well as secrets all of Rosie's own.

Guilty Pleasure
I have thoroughly enjoyed both books in this series and hope for more. It isn’t what anyone would call ‘great literature ‘ but it is a fun story with a spooky element.
If I have one absolute bug bear is when the narrator as Rosie in her Essex girl voice says “gal” for girl, if anything it would be “gell “ with a hard G. All ‘Aunt Bans’ rhyming slang grates as well. As a London girl living in Essex I don’t know anyone who speaks like that anymore.
Anyway small moans. Listen to the book I think you’ll enjoy it.

Essex girl with a wit lip
I find Rosie Strange an entertaining character with her one liners and attitude. I like the strange series, mysterious without being a hard thriller. However, saying that, I did with interest, look up the history behind this book. Julia's performance is excellent and brings Rosie's wit perfectly.

Another great tale from Syd Moore
In my opinion, the narration by Julia Barrie really brings Rosie’s character to life for me, although (as with the previous book) it took a little while for me to tune into it.
Syd Moore has once again delivered a fantastic tale that was lively and energetic. I’m already looking forward to the next instalment of the Essex Witch Museum series.
I’d recommend this to anyone who like a good whodunnit with a supernatural edge.

Love love love these books
A great mix of humour, the occult, mystery - very easy to listen to, a definite "housework" (or baby night feed) favourite! Fingers crossed for more books soon! Plus I love the narration - very "human". More please!!

fabulous spooky fun who dunnit tale
At first I found this hard to get into but as with a new book and narrative style I eventually warmed to it and the quirky sharp humour.
I'm glad I listened to this rather than read it. I don't think I'd have captured as much as the reader Julia Barrie did.
