Publisher's Summary

Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels has seen humanity at its most depraved and terrifying. She's lost loved ones. Come close to death countless times. But she always manages to triumph over evil. Luther Kite is humanity at its most depraved and terrifying. He's committed unthinkable acts. Taken human life for the sheer pleasure of it. He is a monster among monsters, and no one has ever caught him. Each is the best at what they do. Peerless. Unmatched.

Until now...

In Luther's experience, people are weak. Even the strong and fearless break too easily. He wants a challenge, and sets his depraved sights on Jack. But with a baby on the way, Jack is at her most vulnerable. She's always been a fighter, but she's never had so much to fight for. So he's built something especially for Jack. His own, private ninth circle of hell—a nightmare world in a forgotten place, from which no one has ever escaped.

It's J.A. Konrath's greatest heroine versus Blake Crouch's greatest villain in Stirred, the stunning conclusion to both Konrath's Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series and Crouch's Andrew Z. Thomas series.

Only one can survive. And it won't be whom you think.

"Written by couple of tipsy teenagers"

I did enjoy this book. I have teenage kids myself and adolescent humour can be quite engaging. Crouch and Konrath must have had a hell of a laugh writing this. It's a horror comedy and certainly not the quality genre that Crouch has developed in recent books such as Dark Matter. It's stupid, ridiculous , laughable, sickly gory , not worthy of pulp. Has this actually made it into print? The pace of the stupidity is unrelenting and I frequently thought whilst reading on kindle / listening on audible that I need a break from crime altogether and return to gentle warm classics. There's even a Skooby-Doo moment "if it wasn't for you blasted kids ...." I believe Crouch collaboration books are detrimental to his career and he shouldn't advertise them in his solo Ebooks. They might have got him started but now leave them firmly in the past. He's no longer an adolescent so he needs to stop writing like one. Read the book enjoy it for what it was. You'll laugh out loud.

"A good ending to the series"

If you've already reached this book, then you have been reading the Jack Daniels book series for a while and finally, eventually, reached the end. If so, then just do it, buy the book. You want to know what happens, where it ends and who survives. This is a brutal thriller that finalizes all the characters and their stories.

If you're new to the series you don't want to start at the end, I don't think. The book assumes knowledge of the rest of series. Also, this book continues where Shaken leaves off. It's rough to read, very graphic and violent. But this series needs to end with a villain worthy of Jack and the rest of the killers she's come up against.

If you've made it here, then buy it, it's a good (but not spectacular) end to a very fun series. If you're new to the series, it starts with Whiskey Sour and is a very good collection of books. I loved them. Get involved and have fun!

"Dante's Hell Visited in Excruciating Details"
If you could sum up Stirred in three words, what would they be?

    Bloody.
    Cold.
    Intense.

What other book might you compare Stirred to and why?

    Dante's Inferno

What does Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I waded through all the blood because they made it easy enough to do so. Had I been reading rather than listening, I probably wouldn't have picked it up after the first break I took.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Why not take a bloody romp through Dante's Inferno?

    Any additional comments?

Calling all sadists. This is the book for you.

The antagonists were drawn with a finer brush than the protagonists...more 'fleshed out' and complete. More motivated. I tired of all the heroine's pregnancy problems, especially since she didn't seem to have an iota of common sense.

There were a few clever/humorous lines I enjoyed.

Mostly I'm just glad the book is over, even if the story isn't.

    "Good but not Great"

First off I have to say I love the series. The characters are well thought out and the plots are just twisty enough to keep my interest. This book would have been great if I had read it instead of listened. I Have gotten use to the voices of characters and when you change them it throws the listening experience off. Phi Gigante is a great narrator and I always enjoy listening to him. But, his voice coming out of Harry's mouth just doesn't cut it. It changes the whole dynamic between him and Jackie. Other than that, the book was exciting and well worth the listen.

    "Rambling and confusing"
What would have made Stirred better?

This was the greatest waste of time and money for a previously compelling series about Jack Daniels. The previous female narrator was much convincing as well. The female voice in "Stirred" and "Shaken" were too young to be a conconvincing 49-year-old tough detective. In addition, the story rambled on and on, going back and forth so often that I got vertigo! Also, there were too many confusing plot lines. I liked Konrath's earlier 5 or 6 Jack Daniel books much better. If the author keeps up this series, he will kill all the good ones off. Stop already!

Has Stirred turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, not at all! The female narrator in this book was too you ing to portray a 48-year-old tough homicide detective!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Too many sidelines of different characters floating in and out!

What character would you cut from Stirred?

    Lucy and Donald

    Any additional comments?

Please stop writing on this series until you get under control!

Great performance, thrilling story. Just wish they'd killed all the monsters, that was excruciatingly disappointing.

The voices for the men are way off! They all sound the the same. They need to go back to the original male narrator.

    "A great Horror Novel"

‘Stirred’ the next in the Jack Daniels series is a bit of a cross over with one of Blake Crouch’s . The book is a good representation of the Daniels series and has a TON of blood and gore even more than in the past. Konrath does a great job of adding in some humor towards the end with Finn, Harry and Herb, but throughout the book Jack becomes a bit unlikable. She made a bunch of poor decisions that put her in the position that she found herself in and it seemed like there was no real reason for her to do that other than her being stubborn which soured me a bit. If you’re a big fan or horror I think you’ll like this book!

Having two narrators is great but changing them in the middle of a series is a bit annoying.

What a story! An edge of your seat one. Reminded me of the Red River of Fordham that has its setting in the old factory.
