Wow... just wow!

After having three children in two and a half years I never seem to have the free time to read books or stay conscious long enough to read more than a few pages! So the fact I have been able to literally digest this book in a week speaks volumes for how good it is! It has me immediately googling Catherine Steadman to find more reading material! Excellent read, very clever and quite an unexpected ending!

An incredible audiobook

I didn’t expect much from this book, I prefer a book with other listeners reviews but I think there was only one. I had never heard of the author but thought sounds interesting so I will give it a go. I am so pleased I did, what a book could not stop listening. Very well written and read and most importantly, to me anyway, it is believable. One of the best listens for a long time.

Cleverly written and a truly enthralling listen

In this novel we follow Erin a documentary filmmaker and newlywed to investment banker Mark.
These two are passionately in love but not without their issues. Mark has lost his job and therefore direction, Erin is embarking on a new documentary documenting prisoners who are soon to leave prison. We follow them on their dream honeymoon where things take a turn, and one decision impacts their future and their lives.

Without giving any spoilers this is not a romantic novel this has wonderful twists and turns and challengers that you feel like you are being taken along for.

This debut novel from Catherine Steadman is enthralling and you genuinely will not want to put it down.

Something in the narration...

Just started to listen to this book, I'm only on the second chapter as I write. The story seems ok so far, however, the continuous swallowing and clicking noises made by the narrator after every sentence, is frankly, driving me to distraction! Even with the volume down, it's still audible. If like me this kind of thing annoys you, I recommend you read instead of listening!

Not for me

Unbelievable characters with no shred of the usual human emotions, venal, selfish and frankly deserving of their fates! I like thrillers generally but this left me unmoved. I even fell asleep towards the end and frankly was too bored with the self pitying lead that I didn’t bother to go back and listen to what I had missed.

Slow to get started

Slow to get into and initially the narrators voice irritated me as it seemed quite flat, devoid of emotion which was strange as she wrote the book. But I gradually got used to it. The plot was highly unbelievable but kept me gripped, sometimes believable is boring! All threads tied up, really enjoyed the book, I couldn’t put it down in the end.
