Summary

In the winter of 1942, England lies cold and dark in the wartime blackout. One bleak evening, Councillor Grayling steps off the 6.12 from Euston, carrying £120 in cash and oblivious to the fate that awaits him in the snow-covered suburbs.

Inspector Holly draws up a list of Grayling's fellow passengers: his distrusted employee Charles Evetts, the charming Hugh Rolandson, and an unknown refugee from Nazi Germany, among others. Inspector Holly will soon discover that each passenger harbours their own dark secrets and that the councillor had more than one enemy among them.

Disappointing

I usually only write positive reviews, but I found this book so rambling that the best I can describe it as is disappointing. It wasn't helped by the delivery that, at times, left you wondering who was speaking.

Pronunciation

Reader was annoying as he is unable to pronounce assume correctly. He inserts the letter h making ashume and does the same with other words such as resume (reshume). I found it distracted from the story.

Strange story

The story jumps about, totally lost me and though I’ve listened to some good stuff on soundings crime and some rubbish, this I deleted after 60% through.

Don’t bother there’s far better vintage crime on audible than this tripe.
