From Blake Pierce, best-selling author of Once Gone (a number-one best seller with over 600 five-star reviews), comes a heart-pounding new mystery series. A bundle of books: Book one (Before He Kills) and book two (Before He Sees) in Blake Pierce’s Mackenzie White mystery series....
Florida investigative reporter Whitney Steel has lived in the shadow of her legendary father long enough. To prove herself she needs to find the "big" story. She found it. Now it may kill her. After receiving a lead pointing to the world's first cloned human, now a small child, Whitney vows to unravel the truth. However, sifting through the facts proves to have dangerous results, including death threats and murder.
A serial killer is abducting, torturing, and murdering young women in a small community in central Maine. Seeming to select his victims at random, he acts out the rituals of the Spanish Inquisition before committing their bodies to the sacred waters of nearby Sebec Lake. Anne Quinn, an investigator for the Piscataquis County sheriff's office, and Detective Douglas Bateman with the Major Crimes Unit of the Maine State Police join forces in tracking him down.
A tragic love story methodically woven around a fallen country music star, a beautiful dancer, a 13-year-old child genius, and a powerful, psychopathic judge. A friend pulls out a Ouija board and asks you to play. It's just a game, right? But when the Ouija board reveals a secret you've never disclosed, then "the spirit" asks you to warn his living sister that she is about to be murdered.... What would you do? This is the scenario that tragically entangles the lives of Max Allen, Carla Cecil, and Bradford Doss.
Everyone wondered about Shaye Archer's past. Including Shaye. Shaye Archer's life effectively began the night police found her in an alley, beaten and abused and with no memory of the previous 15 years, not even her name. Nine years later, she's a licensed private investigator with a single goal - to get answers for her clients when there aren't supposed to be any. And maybe, someday, answers for herself.
Ten years back, Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away, and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rd's own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria. Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences....

From the neon paradise of Las Vegas to the militant-infected jungles of Bogota, Blake must risk his life and infiltrate the cartel's inner world and eliminate the ruthless drug lord.
The price of failure is higher than ever as he's forced to use the woman he loves as a pawn in a deadly game where the events of the past and present collide.
Any additional comments?
Retribution
Book two in the Whitney Steel series will take you on a fast paced roller coaster ride. I think that you definitely need to have read the first book as it follows straight on.
Cresswell has done it again with Retribution, with a fantastic mix of action, suspense, romance and this time there's some drug trafficking thrown in!
Although graphic in places, this is a thoroughly gripping and entertaining read, 4*.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, with thanks to TBC audible listeners on Facebook and the publisher

If Book 1 wasn't bad enough we are then insulted by Book 2. I thought maybe my Audible app wasn't working as one minute I'd be listening to Book 2 and then Book 1 was played again. But no, as if putting up with Book 1 isn't enough, the author further insults our intelligence by copying huge chunks of it onto another disc and calling it Book 2! I'd rather she took me out and told me I was stupid! The highlight for me has to be the narrator telling me that the kidnappers were wearing "baklavas". Sorry? They were wearing a filo pastry dessert filled with crushed nuts? BAL-A-KLAVA!!! It's knitted headwear. Grrrrrrrrrr! And nobody, not the author, the studio, the editor, the sound crew, nobody picked up on it. Don't bother, it's 6 hours of your life that you'll never get back

What would have made Retribution better?
A different narrator, this one was very flat and robotic with a dodgy accent: take note of the pronunciation of the word VEHICLE!
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Rather anti climatic, suggested a twist which never arrived.
What didn’t you like about Rebecca Hansen’s performance?
Accent and very flat performance.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Probably the shortness of it.

So many books, so little time to read. I read this book in less than a day! It is that good! I was given a book by the author,. I'm a character reader, I get into the characters, their story, who/what they are. The author does a great job of developing the plot quickly & thoroughly. The significant characters in this writing are developed similarly along the way. This book is in all senses of the word, a thriller, beginning with a mysterious murder. That’s it, no more spoilers from me though I can see more about this character in the future. Outstanding read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the story revolves around Whitney the reporter and her boyfriend FBI agent Blake Neely. They are up against a revenge driven drug lord and the large gang he commands. Action abounds!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
As the title of this review suggests, the action begins from the opening few pages when Whitney is kidnapped while finishing an interview on camera outside the courtroom of a big trial. It continues the entire book!
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Hansen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes I have listened to the previous Whitney Steele audio book "Reflection: A Whitney Steel Novel, Book 1". She has a very clear voice and the talent to bring to life the likeable characters and the not so likeable ones too! To keep the excitement flowing.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Tough lady reporter and beau fight an evil, vengeful drug lord
Any additional comments?
I have had the pleasure of listening to Book one in this series also. Both are worthy of my time investment. Likeable characters, feasible plots, well written and good voice performances.
Thanks for the opportunity to listen to and review this Audible book.

Whitney has been kidnapped and Blake is on the trail, but Blake has his own problems, there is a bounty on his head. If Blake is to get Whitney back he must travel to Columbia's biggest drug trafficker, Pablo Sanchez.
This is another wonderful, kick butt book by Kim Creswell. I love Whitney Steel, she is one tough lady, I want to be her when I grow up. The action and suspense in this sequel to Reflections is so intense you can't stop reading/listening you just have to find out what happens. Rebecca Hansen does a great job making this story her own. I love this series and this book but it is a adult book for sure.

I'm not even 10 min in to this book and I want to wreck my truck. The narrator is so monotone it's like reading a congressional transportation bill. The story has the potential to be a good book that has been done a 100 times. I say save your credit and pass on this book or read it yourself, I'm finishing the book but man it's hard listening to this one.
