Summary

A young woman falls to her death. The only people with her are four schoolfriends. One - or maybe all of them - is responsible. Twenty years later someone is intent on letting them have their just desserts.

DCI Andrew Fenwick is soon caught up in a desperate race against time to find the murderer before he completes his bloody vendetta. As the death toll mounts, he must draw the predator out of the shadows and into an unconventional trap with the ultimate bait.

Kept me listening

Elizabeth Corley is a new author for me and on the strength of this book I'll be down-loading more of her works. Early on I was afraid that the story would involve graphic descriptions of violence or torture, but happily that wasn't the case: the author left it to our imagination, which I prefer. The structure of the book, told mostly in the present tense, gives the impression of actually following a police investigation as it happens which adds to the tension and desire to keep listening. As with most detective fiction it depends on complex motives and many diversions in the investigation. I got a real feeling, though, of how frustrating it can be for detectives when clues lead to no progress.
I have a few niggles about accuracy, such as depicting psychiatric treatment more suited to a Victorian novel, but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the book.

Excellent

Excellent crime drama, never too sure who or why is the killer until near the end. A final judgement for the killer.

Too long

As the perp was revealed to us in the first few chapters and the serial crime - it then went on too long - way too long ... I'm loosing the will to live listening to the final few chapters😭

A bit tedious

Overall the story was quite well thought out - but there was so much extraneous and unneccesary wandering, that I felt it was a bit of a chore to finish, I did more or less enjoy it, though doubt I will look for Elizabeth Corley's books in future.

Riveting listen

Five schoolgirls on a trip to Dorset, one dies in a cliff accident. Fast forward 20 years and someone is stalking the survivors.... a. well paced thriller with rounded characters, and good quality narration. I shall be looking for my next listen from this author

good story

I read this on Kindle some time ago and thought to try the audiobook. It's an interesting and well-crafted story, and I'll probably download the rest of the series (there are 5 books) and recommend this one. I'd have given 4 stars but for the narration - Jonathan Oliver actually reads well, and his Fenwick is excellent, but he's off when portraying children and women. Not the only male narrator with this problem!

Give it a go, though.

Brilliant

I rarely do reviews and I picked this audible book at random because it's long but it was terrific and well read. I found the end as gripping as the finale of "The Day of the Jackal" with some similarity. I shall definitely move onto the author's other books.

Pretty Good

I was really looking forward to listening to this book given the reviews that had been posted and indeed I did quite enjoy it but there were a couple of things that took the edge off the enjoyment for me.

The plot is a reasonably good one but there are a few points where I was left wondering why a passage seemed to be overly long without providing any real insight into the story.

The other area I felt let down the story was the narrator who seemed to pause for too long many times during the reading, this detracted slightly from the tale for me.

Overall, a good story but I'm not sure I'd listen to another of Elizabeth Corley's books and probably would avoid this particular narrator. I've definitely listened to better readings recently.

First book

This was the first book I have ever downloaded from Audible, and what can I say only it was fantastic!! Quite long, and it took nearly a month to listen to it all, but really highly recommend it.

So much so I have downloaded Elizabeth Corley next book Fatal Legacy.
