Summary

Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human....

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Critic reviews

"With its close-up view of museum life and politics, plausible scientific background, sharply drawn characters and a plot line that's blissfully free of gratuitous romance, this well-crafted novel offers first-rate thrills and chills." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Wildly cool....Thrill hounds couldn't ask for a creepier environment....a thriller staged in the world's scariest building, with no room for the squeamish." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Intriguing- a really good listen

This was an old fashioned yarn, to be enjoyed when the moon is full and the wind is pushing at the windows! When the action got going it was just impossible to stop listening. Only 4 stars for the narrator though as he produced the worst Scottish accent I have ever heard!

what a brilliant yarn

Audible sale makes you try books , you normally wouldn't try. This was recommended to you because I loved the Lovecraft and Chutulu ecosystem. This recreates the dark, morbid horror with a brilliant twist

gripping and totally believable

I loved it, well rounded characters and a well paced storyline.
A few negatives would be the accents for the dialogues slip a bit at times but characters were easily recognisable so it didn't detract from my enjoyment. A longer pause between chapters and scenes would have helped to make it easy to follow as I wasn't always aware that the story had moved on.
A in all, great and I'll be listening to book 2

Brilliant, even better than the film!

I actually loved the film which was based on this book, so I imagined the actors faces when the characters were described which made it even better for me, especially Margot and Degusta. I loved this story and could not wait to listen to it at every chance I got, just brilliant!

Story not bad but narrator spoiled it

The narrator’s attempt(s) at a Scottish accent were distractingly bad. Some of the other characters’ accents were a bit strange too.

Interesting book

Lots of action and mystery. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys James Rollins or Matthew Reilly books. Characters seem interesting and I hope they will expand on their histories and personal details in later books.

Gripping Plot and Gritty Characters

This is the first boom in the Pendergast series and introduces the listener to many of the characters used in future 'Pendergast' books. The plot twists and turns right from the beginning and leaves you wondering where it will go next. Gritty characters and great narration will get your pulse racing and biting your lip in anticipation of the next twist. Follow this up with Reliquary, then Preston's other 'Pendergast' books, they are all as gripping!
